8800GTX+FX-55="bottleneck" - somewhat?...

Hmm,

When looking at Dual-core reviews, and comparing them; which one should I be looking at (gaming wise) to be comparable to my” single-cored" FX-55? I often look at the lowest CPU, and if that’s good then mine should be at least equal :) An FX60 for example is like 2 FX-55's (2.6) yes? - But will run games about same as a FX-55 (also 2.6)? - Since there are little, if any dual-core optimized games out?

As has been said, 3D06 uses the dual core to give bigger "bench" scores. However, that "gain" means nothing I would have though if the games them selves aren't like 06 - OPTIMISED for Dual core ;)

Sure would think so.!

Talking of bottlenecks/resolutions, well, I have a VX912 19" @ 1280x1024, and I like this res - but keep hearing you are better off at 1600x1200 or higher. Is it a special requirement that you should buy a bigger monitor to give a GTX (or GTS) plenty of justice?. I feel like I'm "told" to use 1600 res somehow - like I've "got to"..... :(

You don't have to - a GTS is still worthwhile at 1280x1024 provided you use high enough levels of AA and AF.

However, higher resolution is better and the gf8 series can handle 1600x1200 in all but the most demanding of games.

I guess it depends slightly on how often you plan on changing your gfx card. If you are going to use the same card for a couple of years, having a larger monitor can become troublesome as future games may tax the card heavily at high res.

2.6 and a "Clawhammer" dave, won't go much higher - locks up (when benchmarking that is) - so that means games too, i guess) about 2.7 is the max i can get think) problem with my 939 mobo - is there ain't much to put in it that will give me a huge leap :(

I get 2.78 out of my fx55 clawhammer, and the idel temps are 29-31c
