Hello
Right, go easy on me as this is my first post and iam hoping somebody may be able to shed some light on my problem.
4 months ago i built myself a new rig, felt it was the right time to blow some cash on some new hardware so i will explain what i got.....it may be relevant and it saves somebody further down the thread asking what equipment iam useing.
Core 2 Duo E6600 with stock cooler. (cpu not overclocked)
ASUS P5B. running the latest bios....which i think is 1007.
BFG 8800GTX (What i think is causing the problems...ill explain futher down)
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency Ram. (I was using some OCZ 5400 previous but brought some of this in the week due to the cool price....so iam pritty sure that the ram isnt causing the issue)
1x 4 port ide controller (off the top of my head i cant remember the chipset)
1x Maxtor 320gb sata2 hard disk.
3x Maxtor 320bg ide hard disks. Enterprise class.
1x pioneer 108 dvd writer
Enermax EG851AX-VH(H) 660W PSU (4 +12v rails @ 14a + 18a + 16a + 14a)
7x 80mm fans....4 on the cpu + northbrige + pci ex slots....2 on the hd's.... 1 in the top of the case.
Running Orthos to batter the crap out of the my cpu it reaches temps of around 60~ under full load......the northbridge hits around 40~.....while playing a game like World of Warcraft the 8800 gets to about 80~ with full detail AA16X and AF16X. From what ive read these temps are normal....but if anyone knows otherwise then please tell me.
Ok now the actual problem........for the first 2 months or so the machine ran sweet as a nut. For the last 2 months or so its been seeming to start playing up. I have had (sorry to use this as an example but its the only game ive been playing recently....damn u blizzard
) blue screens of death in World of Warcraft that at first seemed like one offs and have no progressed into more common occurrences. The game will first of all lock.....with the sound still running.....the sound will then loop....and then i get hit with a BSOD that looks just like this :-
Stop: 0x0000007E, 0xbfb0f330, 0xf7aa3c3c, 0xf77aa3938.
nv4_disp.dll - address bfb0f330 base at bf9d400
date stamp 458ae707.
At the top of this BSOD it mentions drivers...the card itself....and the fact that the machine has been stopped due to the card/driver getting caught in a infinite loop.
I have also taken a look at the system event viewer which presented me with 2 other error messages, both refering to nv4_disp.dll in some way shape or form.
The first is :
The driver nv4_disp for the display device \Device\Video0 got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates a problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly. Please check with your hardware device vendor for any driver updates.
The second :
Error code 1000007e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 bfb0f330, parameter3 bafcfc3c, parameter4 bafcf938.
After taking alook in the last minidump file created i found that, again, my old friend nv4_disp.dll was the cause of the problem.
The lockups and BSOD have not been limited to WoW....ive also had them while running 3dmark and on restarting/shutting down the machine.
So after updateing the bios on my motherboard and all the drivers for the hardware in my machine i dont seem to be able to get rid of this dreaded error. I have spoken to the people at BFG....who ran me through checking the voltages etc for my system and they said to basicly just RMA the card (wicked customer support by the way).
So iam now left with 3 options.......1) do a format and reinstall incase my xp install has somehow got screwed (no virus's or mal/adware....ive checked) 2) RMA the card and hope that the card is at fault and get a new one (woohoo) 3) One of you clever people that have taken the time to read this post ( u = *) know or have seen something that i may of missed....or maybe even have a suggestion
Oh i guess theres mystery option number 4) Push the whole lot into a black bag and throw it in the nearest canal....tieing a breeze block or 2 to the bag so the contense cant come back and haunt me )
Help please
Btw if u got to the end of the post then i thank you for reading it......
