8800GTX performance cod4

did you use driver sweep? always reinstall COD4 but make sure u save your ranks etc

Yer i used sweep, and ive also tried a reinstall, i no my way around a PC and games its just this one as me

If i host a map and just me there it sits with vsync at 60 fps doesnt move, when online its jumps down to 45 etc i see these as micro stutters and its really off putting.. And gives me the matrix effect..

Now i dont mind doing a reinstall driver sweep etc again, as long as this would fix it.. in my mind thats not the problem its routed else were.

Theres a problem with COD4 and some setups... try starting a local server on the map overgrown and see if the fps is high when standing still but the moment you move - especially sprint - the FPS plummets and the game "splutters" continously - the moment you stop moving it snaps back to a high framerate again...

If so its probably a known problem with COD4 - I don't think anyhow has worked out what is causing it but my guess is its to do with IRQs - theres no real way of fixing it short of building a whole different rig.

You mean in single-player it's fine? Couldn't be lag on the broadband rather than the GPU going slow?

Now thats a option how do i test this, ive looked at my ping and it stays pritty stable when i check it on *** scoreboard. and i never really play on servers outside the uk.

Yeh, thats what I was trying to get to
I've had similar issues on MP whereas SP spot on

I cured this by doing the following :-

Ran TCPOptimizer util to optimize tcp and NIC settings
Moved COD4 MP to almost top of software firewall rules table (I run a software FW as well as Router)
Also changed the settings for the COD4 MP executeable within anti virus app
Update to very very latest punkbuster client and application version
Also latest COD4 patch from a couple of weeks back

Also disable auto downloading under options screen

Silly question, but it's a proper modem isn't it?
I mean it's not some horrid USB, driver dependent thing is it?
If it is a driver controller job, there's your problem right there.

FWIW, my GTX has taken a huff with COD4 recently, I WAS running at 1680x1050 with 8 or 16 AA and the same Aif, 60FPS in all but the nastiest, smokiest fights.
Got a new monitor, 1920 res, and the game has totally browned it's undies and just doesn't want to do decent FPS with ANY AA on at all, doesn't matter if it's 2x of 4x4SuperSampling, the perf is simillar (going higher into the "hacked" AA modes, naturally cripples it completely, no surprise there though).

Dunno what's got into it at all.

It just hovers around 45fps (with vsync on, this would indicate an uneven frame rate, and sure enough it looks a bit lumpy).

No mate im with virgin so its a proper cable modem, which is new itsself i got it changed from the old surfboards to a black motorola one about 6 months ago.

BTW Im going to try everything but a format thats been mentioned so far tonight/tommorow.:) see if anything fixes it.

I have the Exact same problem I have had to resort to running cod4 at 1024x768
If I try and run at 1680 x 1050 its a no go.
I have a q6600 At stock
4gb of OCZ Ram
8800GTX I should be able to run fine
Also Im on Nforce chipset

Has anyone got to the bottom of this

Are you on Vista 64-bit too just out of interest?

Thought so. Why is it when I see a system with good specs and up to date drivers that is suffering inexplicable performance issues it's generally running Vista 64-bit...

I would put mega-bucks on these "issues" dissappearing if you were to test on a 32-bit OS.

*Wait for cries of "but my 64-bit works perfectly"*.

~It is true there have been loads of issues with 64bit vista, however I think this particular problem is to do with the combo of hardware I have not liking COD4.

I can run all other games fine (apart from race driver GRID) have same prob with that, but crysis UT3, cnc, TF2 all work fine.

Friends of mine in the lan gaming group I go to have almost Identical setups with no problems One even has same processor and graphics card with only difference being that his is intel chipset mobo. And he has no problems.

Also I am sure I didn't have these problems a few cod patches ago, I cant remember at what patch it all changed, but I think my problems in cod go back to either around patch 1.5 coming out or when I changed to this Fatality Mobo.

I was unable to fix my issue i just play at 1680x1050 now texture all on high not extra. 2xAA 16xAF annoys me i cant play at my screen res, but o well maybe the 4870 1gig version will fix that when it drops.

Turn off AA, it makes a big difference:

No AA

4x AA

It also stutters like **** whenever your looking at grass.

On 8800GTX.
