Hi,

I'm sure it has been discussed before, however a quick search did not discover much in the way of an answer...

I've got a new ASrock mobo with 8CH audio spread through the various colored plug-ports. I'd like to have this PC connected to my AMP using the digital input on the AMP, either optical or coax.

Can someone please let me know what is the best way of achieving that?

Thanks,

NC.

Chances are that your PC can't encode to DD or DTS, meaning that the digital output will probably only give 2 channel via digital.
For games in multichannel, you'll need to get some mini-jack to RCA-Phono cables, and hope that you have 5.1 (or 6.1) channel inputs on your AV amp.

Isnt it possible to send just a bitstream from the pc via optical and have the amp decode it?

For standard dvd audio this should be ok - however for hd-dvd or br then optical doesnt have enough bandwidth as far as i understand it.
