8k 60fps Benchmark

It needs proper hardware acceleration either in the CPU or in the GPU. And an 8K monitor do display what you are streaming.
Have you got an 8K screen?

You don't need an 8k screen you just enable 8k and it will decode at that and then play at your res as shown in the stats bit, my res is 1410 x 802 as I have it in a windows but it is running at 8k as shown in the current but underlined below, if you leave youtube to its thing that current would match your res and be less taxing.

Complete stutter fest in chrome using 70-80% of my threadripper 1920x and 20% Vega 56. Cant test it in edge as it only offers up to 1080p60. 4k works great using only 20% cpu and 15% gpu. Based on what I can find, using DXVA checker, vega doesn't appear to support hardware decoding of 8k HEVC or VP9.

I tried with no HA on in Chromium Edge. and it was worse on my 4790k @ 5GHz than on Titan XP.

And to the user who said we cannot test this without a 8k monitor that is nonsense, it will still render it at 8k and then you will see it as whatever your monitors RES is same as if you use DSR (basically Supersampling) in a game: example Nvidia DSR 4k on 1440p monitor, game will look nicer and run with lower FPS within single digits/margin of error to an actual 4k monitor.

An 1800X at 4GHz can handle it just fine in Firefox with hardware acceleration turned off. One brief stutter when I brought up the stats window.

Seems odd that a couple of people using Threadrippers are struggling, though maybe that's in Chrome.

On original Win10 built in Edge without HA on so with CPU it is a stutter-fess, but with HA on so with GPU its fine with no stutters so for now MS Edge plays it better than Chromium Edge.

Can somebody test it with a 3900x or 3950x on chrome and hardware accelerate off?

Its a mess on my 3900X with this, looks like 20fps and using over 80% CPU usage..

So i installed Firefox, runs smooth with HA disabled and uses around 40-45% CPU usage.

Chrome either sucks or i need to reinstall it.

I might actually look into switching to Firefox permanently :)

Yes, I have not seen 1 cpu that could play the 8k60fps video perfect. So the 3900x can no do it either. Waiting for 3950x 3960x and 3970x.

If those can't play it smooth on crome with HA disabled, then it is a chrome bug.

For testing purposes I downloaded the video to desktop (removes potential browser and downloading issues) and I am getting around 30% GPU usage and the CPU runs between 40-70% load. If I was to look at the graph and average it, I would say CPU usage is about 55%. But yeah it changes a lot as the scene changes in the video. But it plays super smooth and I can easily flick through the video to any point and it plays instantly like any other resolution. So no issues here.

Either you have hardware accelerate enabled or your video is not set to 8k60fps.

If a 3900x can't play it how can a 3700x play it?
I posted above showing that even an 1800X can play it using Firefox. Just for fun, I downloaded Chrome and tried it in that:

Much higher CPU usage, much worse performance. So it's actually Chrome that's the problem. It plays fine without hardware acceleration in Firefox.

Dont know what's up with MyBrains rig, but my sig rig plays it flawlessly. CPU at 2% utilisation and GPU at 75%.

Probably a lot of peoples internet connection too. I'm running a VM 350 connection. It seems to be pulling about 70 Mbps, so a beefy connection is needed.
