8Pack puts 780ti, 780ghz,R290,R290X and Classy to the sword **780Ti REVIEW & BENCHMARKS**

Ok help me out guys, Im going to be ordering a new single gpu for 1080p setup (want it to last atleast 2 years) and I want to max out or close to max out any games out at the moment,

I have a black and blue colour them but that comes secondary after performance:D

so I was thinking a 780(non ti) or a r290

EVGA GeForce GTX 780Ti Dual Classified ACX 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (03G-P4-2888-KR) @ £659.99 inc VAT

GX-235-EA_400.jpg

NVIDIA's latest Geforce 780Ti takes the fight right to the competition in the battle for current worlds fastest single GPU. Packing a fully enabled GK110 GPU with a whopping 2880 cuda cores this card has huge amounts of processing power to enable it to power through any game. Infact the 780 Ti is so impressive, it’s not just cheaper than TITAN, it beats it in performance and takes the crown as the Best Gaming GPU on the Planet.

NVIDIA are supporting the overclocking community even further with an advanced three rail PWM with load balancing, whereas older GTX 780 and Titan pulled all their power through three rails, they did not load balance. 780Ti's new PWM means it can source power from three sources and load balance resulting in the same amount of power from each rail, allowing for more superior overclocks and stability. Here at Overclockers UK we tested this and where we found Titans would top out at 1100-1150MHz core, whereas the 780Ti was able to hit 1200-1300Mhz core over and over again, proving this new PWM not only offers efficiency and stability, but also great overclocking ability. When overclocked this cards performance can be increased by upto a further 30%, making it a truly unstoppable force.

For memory once again here at Overclockers UK we are very impressed to see 3GB of RAM and a 384-Bit interface meaning it can power the latest games even at the highest resolutions and detail settings, making this card the perfect choice for any gamer or overclocker.

780Ti uses the Titan cooling system and this means that even whilst gaming, you can indeed game in silence or at night whilst the rest of the household is asleep and not have to worry about waking up those sleeping.

Should see the ACX cards in 3-4 weeks! :D

Colour me unimpressed if an oc'ed 290 can offer the same gameplay experience of an oc'ed 780ti.:o

I suppose a £230+ premium is what you pay for a better cooler though. :p:D

ohhh nice i feel better,
i ordered a gigabyte one as of impluse :D
8pack do you know what gigabytes warranty is like if i wanted to slap on a waterblock?

I emailed Gigabyte months back asking the same question. They gave a response about 4 weeks later, which siad "No, if you attempt to remove any part of the GPU, this will invalidate your warranty", I would have done it anyways but if they put those stickers on, that makes it hard work but nothing a hair dryer couldn't fix ;)

The best with water are EVGA and they actively promote it with their users.

Superb write up Ian. Great to see some hard benching and comparisons and for the normal people as well :D

Only 290X or 780Ti, the 780 can't come close on water to those pair. A 780 would need 1500MHz+ core to rival R290X or 780Ti on water, so skip the 780's and focus only on the Kings. ;)

And then you throw a 780ti classy at me, so 780 is out the window now, do we know when to expect a 290x lightning?

Feel like my head is going to implode :p

Once you add the 'good cooler' to the 290X you'll be approaching the cost of the GTX 780ti anyway. That already comes with a good cooler and three games.

Both cards are viable imho.

290=350-380euro here
780ti=620euro here
add watercooling and you still have a long way to go for a price/performance value with a 780ti and add Mantle if you play those games well its interesting.

So even though the Classified for example is clocked higher the 780Ti is still the faster card...

How much do you think you will be able to get out the 780Ti Classified.

Also you need to update the memory clocks on the photo for the OC 780Ti

theres also no frame pacing issues on the the 290 + 290x either so you could get 2 for the price of 1 780ti although youll have 2 cards running at about 95 degrees in ya case

Scores for the 290X look low considering the overclock:confused::confused:

The one we used could only manage a 6000MHz memory overclock, which meant the R290 Pro which had a 6400MHz memory overclock was giving more or less same performance as R290X.

The R290 Pro is the real bargain king.

We shall update the results at somepoint in the future with a decent clocking R290X.

Great stuff chaps. Ian, impressive review as usual.

780ti is a beast for sure but can't help but be hugely impressed by the 290x and 290. I have a soft spot for 3DMark 11 and any card that trumps all else on those with a crappy reference cooler (i.e. the 290x) deserves huge kudos.
