8Packs Ambient OC on Haswell E and 4ghz comparison with 4930K.

Nice!

Another thing for you try try Ian with the 5820k and pci lanes...the x99-e ws will run quad at 16/16/16/16, so presume it has some additional south bridge assistance (plx?). So I wonder how this would work out with the 28 lane chip. Could be a winning combination.

I dont have that board to try with. If we get a sample at some stage it may be worth trying. Maybe PLX will add a lot of latency.

Its hardly surprising with large core count, big caches, DDR4 IMC and many PCI EX lanes. The ones with better cooling will for sure get more out of these chips.

Also if you don't run torture tests you will be fine with more volts.

im not going to be upgrading for months as i save up but i will be going for the 5820k as i only have a gtx770 at the mo and im not skilled enough i doubt to see a difference between 16/16x and 8x/8x. at only £35 more than the deluxe the rampage v is a no brainer too.

my question is only having amd fx overclocking experience and having seen ttl review for 5960x and rv (you got a mention btw) these intel x99 need a lot more knowledge to get the best out of them with the xmp altering clock speed and stuff. when ive got everything together and built if i gave you a list of my components and watercooling would you be able to offer a good base oc settings to try with a couple of pointers maybe where to go from that point. from now until then im going to do as much research as possible to learn as much as i can too.

cheers, damien.

I see some of the MSI motherboard come with something for fitting a Haswell-E with the IHS removed. Does this mean Intel have used dodgy TIM on these chips instead of whatever they used for SB-E and IB-E?
Would delidding help with overclocking if it reduces temps or are you approaching the limit for safe volts?

Thanks for the info!

My 5960X is at 4.2ghz at the moment but I haven't touch the uncore / cache volts yet. How much of an impact does it have on performance?

It went to over 10ghz and didnt stop until it hit the stop button, shame it never stuck at that speed

Very sililar.

DDR timings different though if your into memory tweaking / clocking.

ok thanks a lot. I'm going to have a go at it. am I better off setting xmp profile before I start ocing the cpu? reason I ask is because the xmp profile changes the bclk to 125
