Hey Guys....

had my new x1800xt 512mb for about a week and a half and ive just started delving into overdrive and doin some automated overclocking.... all seems to be going well..... except suddenly I look at the temperature probe in Cat Control Centre and it is reading 90C!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, I know things have come on a bit since I had my 9600xt agp (which ran at 42C under load by the way with a zalmn cooler on it) but surely 90C is NOT good? It seems way too high for my liking and I'm worried the card is just gonna go kaput after a few hours of BF2 (however, I have played BF2 several times for prolonged periods and nothing bad seems to happen at all).

Has anyone got any comments on this issue?

Thanks,

its a little high but by no means deadly, mine runs 79c/80c for hours, its what they run at as there so complex, yours is within tolerances of the card, case ventilation ok ?, good case ventilation is a must. Im thinking of getting the Thermaltake Tide Water GPU cooler, looks ace, will mount it on the side of my case

Well I feel a lot better knowing this is 'normal' :D My case ventilation is quite good yes. I might consider getting an extra fan to put as an intake on the front..... but that might be pointless because I want to get a nice shiny new Antec P180 which'll have some built in fans.

Might see if I can change the cooler on the X1800 to my old Zalman heatsink from my 9600xt.... their website seems to say that it supports my new card and anything has to be better than the jet-engine they fitted as stock.... it shakes the bloody house down when its turned up full lol!

thanks for the reply

i think most 1800 and 1900 series cards run pretty hot, i never ran my 1900xtx with stock cooler, straight 2 water, card loads at about 43 :D but thats at stock, although has a 2.6ghz a64 and chipset in the loop
