945/955/975X compatibility?

How do I know if a board is of the 945/955/975X series?

I don't see any reference either on the box or the instruction manual. Has that answered my question?

I'm looking to buy a pentium dual core cpu by the way and have an ECS Elitegroup RS400-A LGA775 compatible mainboard. There is something on the back of it which reads 'Intel 6xx cpu series support'.

Am I screwed?

Your mobo has:
Chipset ATI® RS400 & SB400
North Bridge: ATI® RS 400
South Bridge: ATI® SB 400

945, 955, 975x, etc... are intel chipset names (series) (example: intel 975x chip)

Soooooo, my motherboard is incompatible with the intel dual core cpu's then?

Would guess so, but head to manufacturer's website in case such a thing is available via BIOS update (although unlikely

)

i think not, ecs didnt yet discover dual core existed and hasnt listed any pentium d's here, not even the new single core 65nm ones, i think ecs lives back in the stone ages:
