just been fiddling about with the bios, adjusted the multi to 17x and cpu is running at 3.4 ghz, nothing else changed, running a arctic cooling freezer 7 pro,

just done prime95 for 15 mins and with core temp running it was 44 idle and 63 under full load

surely 63 is too hot ? and if it is how come is something faulty ?

is it because the pc is only a few days old and things have to settle down or is that just being hopefull ?

Thanks.............Matt

the cooling paste was pre applied to the cooler and it says on instructions its mx3

bit worried now seeing as the stated max temp is 62 and mine was going over that lol

might have to put it back to standard clock :(

set it back to stock 16x multi and doing the hour long amd overdrive stability test and even at stock speed and the freezer 7 pro its still hitting 56 under full load :(

Yes, 125w at stock, once your overclock you go past 130w. Temperatures at stock settings are fine on it, its just overclocking where the temps go past what is safe mate.

Higher frequency means that its using more power, and power=watts. Overclocking generates more heat, so if the cooler is enough for stock, but thats it, then overclocking will be a problem.

i still cant help but think something is wrong,

why is it idle at 46 -48 degrees ?

ive read reviews of this cooler and people are getting good everclocks off it

bahhhhhhh lol

think thats quite hot to be honest for just a 200 mhz speed bump, just to compare my 955 is running at 3.6ghz and idles around 36 c and under load gets to around 46/47c and thats using a sunbeam ccf.

Ok so what can I do to try and rectify the problem ? How do I re seat the heatsink ? Just remove and seat back down again or remove the thermal paste and put some mx5 down ? Do i need to remove the cpu and refit that too ?

leave the cpu in place just remove the heatsink, probably better to reapply your thermal paste to, then replace it make sure its held tight against the cpu,

maybe a check you could do before you reseat it, would be to lay your pc on it's side and see if the temps improve with the weight of heatsink pushing down more, just an idea!

update, redone the heatsink and used some artctic silver 5 i had,

seems to idle a lot better at around 34 but as soon as you set prime95 off doing small fft it rockets straight back up to 62 and even went upto 64 at one point lol

it fares a bit better in the amd overdrive stress test going no higher than 59

still not happy lol

Matt :(

Ive done the same Multi x18 3.6Ghz needed a 0.025v increase to keep it stable, load is now around 58 to 60c. I had to reapplyed paste and heatsink to get these temps mine was 70c before I did this  general rule of thumb is dont go above 60c. Im using the asus silent Knight, It helped when I put some bequiet Fans in; the liquid bearing type. Super efficent dropped 2-3c just swapping my old fans for these :D

thermal paste: you only need half a pea size in the centre of the Cpu to get decent temps :D

fans are tops :D £13 a piece, on the other hand my case and cpu cooler wasnt the best choice in the world. I will admit I really want new on that front. Brought the cooler becuase it looked nice :D this was when I was running 939 at stock lol so yeah not ideal.

my case is a p180 mini with the standars 120 antec fan on back and the std 200 on the top, also got a akasa 120 fan pulling air in at the front

could there be a problem with the cpu ?

proper ****ed off lol
