On my new computer now, everything looks solid but I'm worried about the GPU temps.

I have a 6950 1GB (HIS, no special cooler or anything) and it idles at around 45-52c and went up to 95c while playing The Witcher 2 for about 20 mins.

Used MSI afterburner to increase the stock fan speed of 30% to 40% and then 50% but no real difference. Anything higher than 50% and the fan makes me want to cover my ears.

Are these temps OK? If they're not what could the problem be? I have a HAF X case so that shouldn't be a problem.. no messy cables either.

the fans should really be set to automatic. that way they get faster if the card is getting hotter. i believe 95C is technically ok, but lower would obviously be better

do you have your cased in a cramped area atall or have anything blocking the airflow externally?

I had the same with my XFX 6950 in an NZXT Phantom with good airflow. Ended up watercooling the card and now get a lot more from it.
My advice, replace the stock cooler, they really are crap and obviously made as cheaply as possible.

Graphics cards tend to run hot. That temperature is high although not abnormal. Have you got a side intake fan in your HAF X? Only other option is to replace the cooler, which will void your warranty.

Iv heard of people replacing the thermal paste on their 6950 and having them run a lot cooler. You could possibly try that? it doesnt void warranty as long as you keep the sticker on.

to give you a comparison my 6950s in xfire max out around 75c in the witcher using a antec 1200. this is with a side fan.
