9600GSO -> 8800GTS softmod?

Very interesting indeed. Slight nuisance is that Galaxy GSO don't seem to be around in the UK?

Shall be interested to see whether other nVidia partners have adopted this approach.

They don't seem to exist much anywhere unfortunately, haven't heard anything about it working with other brands.

Galaxy always make interesting cards, I've got a great Galaxy 7300GT with DDR3 and a zalman cooler, always nice to get little extras rather than the reference card.

Its an 8800GTS it gets softmodded into, thats awsome, if they where around would probs flog my gt and get one!

Yep I'll second that, had a Galaxy 7600GT fitted with zalman cooler and loved it.

Still why bother if a Galaxy 9600GSO can be had for about 85-90 then why not stretch to an 8800GT for a little over a 100?

Doesn't guarantee the extra pipelines will be working or working correctly tho... a good chance the cores that end up on the GSO are the ones with faulty pipelines, etc.

Did you not look at the 3d benchmark scores? :confused:.

It clearly shows a tiny difference where I think without the mod it would become quite apparent.

Absolutely fantastic soft mod :D. I just hope the GSO's cooler can withstand the power of the 8800GTS :eek:.

If any of these work on cards that are easier to come buy then it would be good for people on a tighter budget. Everyone deserves to game in style :). Grid pumped up to the max :cool:(need I say more?).

:rolleyes:

of course just because it worked fine for one card means that its going to work fine for all other GSOs with 512Mb onboard.

Rroff, roll those eyes back before I poke them out ;).

I was talking about the, (wait for it)........... article :o.

It clearly showed that the card had successfully transformed into a G92 GTS. Why else would I have asked you if you had seen the benchmark scores in the article?. I only said after it that it would be good for people on a tighter budget if these cards or more were found that could 100% transform. Do you disagree?.

Doesn't change the fact that the cores on these cards are typically the ones that didn't make the grade for the higher end parts - and one of the more common defects that doesn't cripple the entire core are faulty or non-working streaming processors... so while it may work fine on their card if you were to buy say 5 of the same card only 3 might mod ok and the others have problems.
