Hi all,

this weekend i bought a new system. built it today. all seemed to be going well. i installed Vista, followed by all the drivers for the Motherboard and then installed the graphics drivers - Latest from the nvidia webiste. The machine restarts. i then get the little green loading bar and then... nothing, a nice blank screen. however, my monitor thinks its getting a signal.

ive spent hours on this! i have:

tried the Drivers from the disc, the latest from nvidia website, the latest from vendor website and an older version i had lying around.

am i looking at a Vista Problem or a graphics card problem?

any advice is welcome - please find below a few bit of info that might be helpful!

Graphics Card: Xpert Vision 9600GT

Mobo: Abit IP43 Intel P43 (Socket 775)

OS: Vista Home Premium 32-bit.

PSU: Antec TruePower Trio 430W.

I've left it at work overnight. might try XP MCE tomorrow.

Thanks in advance.

Gary

If it is a driver problem it might allow you to do a system restore and have another go of installing the drivers.
When in safe mode windows I think loads minimal drivers.

idd it does only load minimal drivers. It certainly does sound like a driver issue, id suggest updating all your mobo things (drivers + bios etc) before install *** graphics drivers. Also, you are aware that vista will load *** green bar, and the can take a little while on a black screen before it loads the log on screen, th elongest i have seen this take was like 2 mins on my first boot up after formatting, and since then it took 30 seconds toa minute on one pc and around a minute on my laptop.

Im basically asking if you ahve left it for a lentgh of time (10 mins at most) to see if it gets through it or have you just gone "oh, its crashed" after 30 seconds?

hi all, thanks for your input. it feels like ive tried everything!

this morning i installed XP MCE. tried to install the graphics drivers - during the install the screen goes blank and leaves a blinking cursor. i've left it for 10 mins.

any ideas?

Remove Windows from the list of possible problems by booting off a Live Linux CD like Knoppix or Ubuntu. Although these will not drive the card hard, they should be able to load a Gnome X-Windows environment.

What happens if you boot Windows in Safe Mode? Did you try it?

It worked fine in safe mode - because it doesnt load the nvidia drivers.

After spending some time on the phone with OcUK Tech support - we came to the conclusion it could be the mobo. so thats been RMA'd. the Card worked fine in another machine so, in effect ruled that out.

All good fun :(
