Hey guys,

Ive recently bought a 970 GTX (Got the OCUK/GALAX Infinity model) and recently (as in yesterday) I ran in to a little problem when playing Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Basically the game runs perfectly for a good hour or two and then all of a sudden the performance just drops. It goes from smooth gameplay to as if the frames drop to below 10. I have an MSI afterburner displaying the temps of the card on my logitech LCD and typically on load the card is around 60 but as soon as the frame drop happens the temp drops to around mid 40's. Judging from that it would seem as if the card simply runs at half capacity or something.

Anyone else having this?

Also would this be a simple driver issue? Or do I really need to RMA it -THIS- close to xmas?

Cheers in advance!

So far so good. Im pretty sure my temps have improved slightly also. I can only assume my drivers were all over the place. Probably didnt help when I removed the 3D vision drivers the other day too.

Thanks buddy :)

So I havn't noticed any issues for a couple of days and then it goes and happens again today.

Ive not really played Dragon Age much as ive been doing other things and been mostly playing Fifa 15, Company of Heroes 2 and a little WoW. No performance issues with those games.

Just spent around 2-3 hours on dragon age and as im halfway into a dragon fight I get massive fps drops along with temp drops on the card, as if its no longer doing anything. Again it does go back to normal after a couple of seconds but in just as many seconds it goes back down again, rinse and repeat.

My temp monitor on my LCD thing is now resembling a flatline.

Anyone else having this issue or should I just return the card for RMA?

Just having a quick google around and it seems like a LOT of people are having issues with 970 fps drops. This isn't however that warming to know!

My specs are:

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
CPU: Intel Core i7 2600K @ 3.40GHz
Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology
RAM: 8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Z68X-UD7-B3 (Socket 1155)
Graphics: BenQ XL2410T (1920x1080@60Hz)
4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (NVIDIA)

Anything in there that could be causing a problem?

Someone said before about potentially overclocking my CPU but im unsure how to go about doing that and also if the temps would go bezerk and ruin the CPU. That said the CPU is on a watercooling loop connected to 1 single and 1 triple rad with 7 fans cooling them (all corsair performance fans).

I'm guessing you do but have you got the latest bios for your motherboard? The z68 motherboards are quite old and could require a updated bios to run the latest GPU properly.

Also why do you have your refresh rate at 60Hz? You have got a 120Hz monitor lol! Enjoy the smoothness of 120Hz matey lol.

If you could post a screenshot of afterburner showing before and after stats of how your card was running too might help if this happens again?

Ill have to check the BIOS but I dont recall updating it so its quite probably in need of that. To which how would I go about doing so?

I actually didn't realise my refresh was on 60 so thanks for highlighting that!

And ill get the screenshot when I next spend a couple of hours playing! It seems to alleviate if I quit a game and then restart it.

Dont know what drivers you are on, but I have seen this in the nvidias driver thread
Confirmation that DAI has stutter with 347.09 for me as well.

Back to 344.80 and all is well.

Is yours a little stutter though or was it a massive fps drop that pretty much makes it unplayable.

I haven't played it. Just saw it on the nvidia driver thread and didn't know if it was relevant to you. So thought I would mention it

I still recommend getting DA:I btw. Ive got 107 hours into it so far and theres still a lot more left for me to do.

And cheers for the info guys.

At least I know the card isnt at fault.

Is this what radeon customers feel like? (I kid)

Is putting me off thinking is gonna be endless crashes and such.

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but is the save facility in DAI similar to Skyrim where you save exactly where you are?

Yep.

I just posted a similar post to this in the nVidia Drivers thread but with BF4.

Make no difference if I OC my CPU/Card or not. I'm actually stock at the moment to try and rule over clocking out but it still happens.

I've just removed all drivers and cleaned via ddu and installed the betas to see if that makes any difference.

Yea im getting the issue with DA:I like ive said but BF4 doesn't even load (it crashes as soon as the exe starts) and the same happens for WoW. The only time I can get WoW to start is if I change the resolution (from the dynamic super res to my native res 1920x1080) and also launch it TWICE. If I launch it once it goes into a black screen and nothing happens, if I do it twice one of them will go into the black screen and crash and hte other will load correctly.

Im guessing its driver based but it sure is annoying!
