I don't think anybody has mentioned DSR.. Once u enable 4K>1080p it takes a lot more grunt, so the 980 or 290x wouldn't be a waste at 1080p. I'm currently playing assetto corsa using said dsr. The 980 can handle ultra settings but the 970 couldn't. High was the best it could do with some tweaks.

I went 980 as my games room gets hot enough as it is in the summer so really am after the coolest running kit as i can (not a Dig at AMD) i had a 480 in the past and since then always swayed towards the coolest kit i can. the 980 is lovely but you will see very little difference in games at 1080p tbh

I thought it might be that but you can only seem to set it to low?
You can select low, medium, high and Ultra levels even on the CPU.
