Hey, as everyone knows its impossible to get graphics cards at close to MSRP and i don't feel like paying almost double the price for a new 3060 or 3070 to a scalper on eBay, but wanted to know if with current games it would be worth going sli on a 970 until something changes with buying GPUs. (Wasnt too happy with 7fps in battlefield 2042 ) Any help or advice would be appreciated

970 isn't compatible with SLI, you'll get Vram issues.

970 will SLI.

Depends on games that support sli and games that don't need that much VRAM, battlefield 2042 and 970 sli is pointless as he will need more GPU power and more VRAM depending on resolution and settings he wants to play at.

Probably not a good investment, you still have to pay like £150 for a 970 and you'll hit VRAM issues and just flaky support for SLI in some games. You also have power consumption factors to consider.

I'm not anti-SLI by any means but it's only something I would consider if you could get a bargain second card which isn't the case currently.

That judder or whatever it is when they show GTA is awful.

Would rather a single powerful card myself, avoids issues and better for heat. I think people may have needed it sometimes if running 4k when it was new, but even then they were only 60hz and had higher pixel response etc.. only now they're decent. And then there was micro stuttering.

There's an issue with them, if I remember correctly it needs to be the exact same model.

Yeah needs to be same model. I had 970 blower style SLI then 980 AIB SLI and it was really successful. Case got hot mind. At the time SLI support was fine but now I think it might have died off.

I managed to sell the two 980's to buy a brand new 1080 without any outlay. Ah the good old days....

My other half had her Asus Strix 970 in SLI with my old MSI Gaming X 970 for ages with no problems - this was at 1080 so she didn't really hit any issues with the segmented VRAM.

It worked well in the games she played but if I were the OP I wouldn't bother now, unless they're only interested in older games that already have SLI support.

Given the GPU shortage I replaced the two 970s with a 3060Ti when OCUK did the last deal and kept the 970s as backup cards just in case.

As someone that used the 970's in SLI for a year way back when, I can safely say that I do not recommend it in the slightest!

Best case scenario is you'll get roughly 980ti performance. But not in many games (if any new ones) and the noise/heat just doesn't make it worth it. Worst case scenario, you'll get worse performance than 1 card due to the frame skipping.

I swapped mine out in the end for a used 980ti and performance was much more reliable.
