Just picked up a reference 980 off the MM and its a nice upgrade on my 280X. Runs all my games great at 1080p (only a 60hz screen for now).

But.....how much is my CPU holding back this GPU?

GPU at stock and 2500k running at 4.6 I got 10609 on FireStrike 1.1

As mention it doesnt really matter as its working great gaming but when I upgrade to a bigger screen I guess it might be worth upgrading more stuff?

cheers :)

There will always be a chance of a rare instance in some game where, yes, there'll be a slight restriction, but essentially, you have nothing to worry about (especially with the sort of overclock you have). Besides, graduating to a higher resolution will only help, as will cranking up the detail, etc. :)

Not sure anyone with the ability to clock the chip to 4.6 and bench it with an enthusiast program wouldn't realise how solid that chip still performs to this day.

It wouldn't bottleneck many cards on market :p

Just wasnt sure on the bottleneck front. :) CPU was dead easy to clock, could probably go higher too. Barely tops 50 degrees under the H100i GTX. :)

Just tried clocking the card slightly and got 11395, going to put it under water and clock the balls off it.

I went from ivy to sandy happily going for a 2700k from 3570k , probably sorted still for another few years at this rate sandy are cracking chips and thermals are top dogs you know whats

Should be good all round if you have it running around 4.6 (I am guessing though). Still a capable CPU.

Agreed, I've owned Ivybridge and several haswell/devils canyon chips and now a 5820k. Yet to use the latter for games, but performance was pretty much the same on all the other chips. Anyone who bought an sb chip has had great value for money.

I bought my 2500K pretty much on the day Ivybridge was released (it was reduced slightly in price, making it about £30-40 cheaper than the newer CPU).

Clocked at 4.6Ghz with a £25 cooler. I still see no reason to upgrade.
