Hi Guys,

Which 2TB drive do you think is best £/performance?
In brackets I've put price I'm aiming to get any of them at or found them at.

980 PRO (~£180)
990 PRO (~£240)
WD 850x (~£160)
KC3000 (~£155)

I'm thinking of getting Kingston drive but just want to see what's your thoughts.

I have a 980 in one rig and an 850x in another. 850x > 980 for my vanilla desktop use.

From reviews I have seen on line, 990 is the fastest, but I don't think it's fast enough to justify the extra money. The KC300 is well reviewd as a great price/performance drive, but I think the 850X is faster and close enough in price.

850x would be my pick, but it might be worth looking for a head-to-head review/comparison between KC300 and the 850x.

The 990 pro is just bad value and I've seen some issues with drive health dropping a few percent pretty much right away that haven't been explained yet.

I'd probably go with either of the cheapest options, as you aren't really going to see a difference.

PCIe Gen 5.0 drives are also on the horizon.

I think I'd go with the 850X, the Kingston performs very well in reviews, but Kingston like swapping stuff out (though, the controller is actually stated on their website). I think the Kingston also has higher endurance, maybe because of the newer Micron NAND being used.

If it's your birthday soon then Samsung will give you 15% off. I got the 990 Pro for £194 direct from Samsung. If you use Samsung Pay, then you get a further £10 cashback.
