Heard I think one of the staff members say a few weeks ago that 8GB cards are incoming.

Any date on these and will they cost an arm and a leg more for a simple extra 4 memory chips ?

Gibbo say's that none of the vendors have any plans to even release such a card.

I know for a fact it was one of the staff members who mentioned in their comments around the time the 980 launched that "8GB cards incoming" I'm paraphrasing but that's what was said.

Would the vendors not do it because of the 256bit bus maybe ?

So far, larger memory cards do come at a premium, and that premium is getting larger - would be surprised to see it £100 more for the extra 4gb.

Surely they won't come out until well after the titan 2 to make people buy that first?

No staff member knows more than me or 8 Pack, we both work directly with the manufacturers and right now none of them have plans for an 8GB card. This could change at any time but right now no 8GB is planned.

Any idea when the GM200 cards are likely to show up and the Titan version in particular.

I bet there's a guy in the industry at each one of the AMD and Nvidia tables who writes on the white board in the big meetings "Who can we aim this more money than sense card at" :p

Will be interesting to see the specs of them though.

Where your comment falls down is the original Titan has turned out to be fantastic value for money. After nearly 2 years of use it is still the go to card for 4K. Crysis 3 maxed @4K looks fantastic on 4 Titans unfortunately the newer AMD and NVidia cards can not even run it at those settings.

I will be very happy to spend the same again to get another 2 years plus use out of the Maxwell Titans and not have to worry about the expense of having to upgrade every 6 months.

With the Titans you get what you pay for and that turned out to be quite a lot in the long run.

Relax dude was only teasing as I could just picture the marketing people with a picture of you in the office :D

Nvidia are not going to release them too soon or it will damage sales of the new 9xx series, Not greatly obviously due to the price of the Titan class cards but it will still detract.

If NVidia can sell people a more expensive card they are not going to worry about effecting sales of the 970/80.

You have to think of it logically, Sell a huge amount of your still expensive 900 series cards or sell a hand full of the vastly more expensive card ?

My bet is on that they will wait a good few months to make a tidy bit of dosh on the 900 series and then release the niche card.

While I want sli 980 I know something better is coming before Christmas. All this reference eol talk know somethings a foot Watson?

The only thing better will be the Titan class of cards, As I think it was Kaapstad who said it, There are no more SMX units to be enabled on the GM204 die so a 980 Ti is highly unlikely.

8GB is going to be a waste on a 970/980 no real point on a 256bit bus.

Won't stop them from milking ;)

If logic came into it you would have concluded that Nvidia wouldn't of launched the 970 at such a competitive price, being that all they are interested in is milking every last drop out of their customers.

A £800/900 titan Maxwell based card would not be bought by the same people that would be buying the 980/70 anyway. (example greg and kaap both have titans both have not bought 980's)

My prediction, March 18.

If Gibbo saying nothing is on the product map yet for these isn't enough then TBH you're just trying to justify waiting to yourself lol. These might not ever come. I can't see the 980GTX being on the road map for too long.

Dont see the point in high RAM 980s. GPU's are not there yet for 4K gaming. To use 8GB you would need to probibly atleast have 3 or 4 of them. My 980's are monsters at 1080p then just switching to 1440p the load pics up tremendously. 2160p would kill them.

Its like having 2GB on those old GT 620, a waste of RAM tbh.
