Hi, I've never really looked before but I just wonderd - when a graphics card is idle what temps should you be looking @ roughly? And also under load, I mean is there a max / common temp?

My 9800Gx2 Is 70 whilst just reg browsing and its goin up to 85 ish while running a game say, just wondering if this is to high and if my fans are kicking in correctly, because I know with the new drivers nvidia recalled the fans wasnt kicking in at times.

~Thanks

Used to have one of these and it can get hot. Typically idled at a toasty 60-65C but load not much different from the rest at around 85C or so when gaming. I've seen it approach the 70C you report when the PC has been on for extended periods. Wondered if this was partly due to the housing design which vents hot air inside the case! Max temperature of the GPU is given as 105C but I don't recommend pushing it much beyond 90C, unless you are carefully stress testing. Something like EVGA Precision will allow you to monitor / change fan settings and if you are running the 196.75 drivers I'd get shot of them asap.

Ive had 2 of these cards in my system and they do run fairly toasty
your idle temps are about correct for this card. When running mines doing F@H it was quite regularly over 100c.
temps of between 80c to 90c when gaming should be fine, what you can do is remove the outer metal casing to allow more air in
and if you have a side air vent add a fan drawing air directly to the card.

my 295s get up to 58 after 45 minutes of furmark, so i imagine 60 is the max they go to, and they idle at around 35-40. This is under water with them both on a 120.3 thermochill Rad with 3 Yateloons (not volt modded down). So i would imagine your temps are fine for using air. When I had a single card on air I remember it idling at around 45 and getting up to around 75/80. Idle temps will be lower as they can down clock better than the 9800gx2. This is all in a Silverstone tj07, granted probably slightly worse air flow than if i didnt have internal watercooling but meh.

I would worry unless the card is getting above 90 to be honest, it is over a 100 that they are rated to, so if it starts creaping up, just give it a good clean with a can of air :)
