No real suprises, beats the 3870x2 in all but one test, sometimes by only a few percent sometimes by 75%. The one test 3870x2 wins, apart from the problem detailed below, is crysis with 4xaa.

What is very concerning is its failure to run 3 of the tests at 4xAA.

Good to see 3dmark06 being tested properly - 2560x1600 4xaa 16xansio - 9443 GX2 compared to 8041 3870x2

Maybe the latest crysis v1.2 patch fixes the 4xAA problem with the 9800GX2..

Crysis Patch 1.2 Changelog

is anyone else as fussy as me.... first few pictures all i could think was "dear god take off that plastic sheet" :p i HATE those things being left on

Well it had to beat the X2 at the price being asked for it.Cause if it never they would have had a real problem moving them.Hope NV pull there finger out driver wise cause sli has never had the best support from them.

its worth noting that 8.3 cats are, well, not the best, give some very weird performance numbers, especially on 3dmark. Also worth noting would be the 3d powerplay bug, the card is noticeable faster in game at least with it fixed

The Crysis non AA number looks plain wrong, completely wrong tbh. I would hazard a guess that in the games i've noticed powerplay being the most problematic(for whatever reason) crysis, cod4 and 3dmark, are the games where it suffers most. Take those out, or fix those with power play essentially disabled and it might look completely not worth it.

Even on the basis that those numbers are accurate, the people that game at even 1920x1200 are limited, 30" gamers are rarer than unpregnant chavs(you ever sat at the same desk with a 30" screen, its horrible, unless your desk is 2 metres deep :p).

Even so, limited performance boost in most games, at levels where you won't really notice the performance difference, IE 50 vs 60fps is COH, a rts game would be completely unnoticable, that game on DX10 with early drivers ran like utter crap on the 2900XT but even at 15fps its not altogether unsmooth, at 25-30fps its smooth as butter. I can't see where paying an extra 20%, maybe more, for the GX2 gives you any value at all unless all you do is play Crysis AND those numbers are correct which they seriously seem not to be.

I still dont reckon these benches are good indications of what the GX2 is capable of. X2 has been out for what? 4-5 months or something, those drivers vs. drivers that arent even out yet...

X2 hasn't been out 2 months never mind 4-5..

It released 28th Jan 08, so it's been out about 1.5 months... and only had 2 official sets of drivers (8.2 and 8.3's).

As for the GX2, i'm not impressed tbh, for a card that is meant to be comming out in 2 weeks and AA isn't working yet that can't be a good sign. We'll have to wait for the release drivers to get a good idea of performance I suppose.

However what it all comes down to is pricing, taking you can get an X2 now for £250, if the GX2 is £400+ is it going to be worth the extra over an X2?

well its better then 3870x2 but the price is insane but if you can afford 30" screen buy 9800gx2 if you have 26" 24" 22" no point waisting such money and get 3870x2 my opinion. for some reason aa and af does not work on 9800gx2 at the moment ?

definately is better, but thats what we expected :p it just depends what the premium actually is! what are people saying so far?
The thing is though to get the most out of it you need a massive monitor!

Totally what i expected. Cant believe some idiots thought this wasn't going to be as fast as the 3870X2 from hearing it on sites like The Inquirer! LOL the biggest joke of a tech news site ever.

I'm buying one for my shiney new 30" monitor...

It would be running on very early drivers in these tests... i'm sure performance will increase even more. After all this is basically two G92 GTS cards with 600mhz Core and 2GHz Mem.

Don't think anyone expected it to be slower than an X2... nVidia would have had to put some real effort in to achieve that taking they were starting with 2 x G92 GTS's instead of 2 x 3870XT's... and we've had the benchies of SLi vs Crossfire since forever.

The only questions were price/performance, noise/heat/power issues, and how good the drivers are.

Kicks the X2 in to touch which is to be expected really, crysis results are correct, its DX10 at 1920x1200, probably all set to very high, a real card killer those settings, looks like the GX2 is the card to go for if your a massive crysis fan. I can see initial pricing being high but i am sure a few week later it will be under £300.;)

I can't see how nVidia can ship it for under £300 it is essentially 2 x GTS's which are retailing in the £165-190 mark... the GX2 is a far more complex card to build so production cost are going to be higher.

No way are they going to sell their flagship card at under £300 any time soon.
