Theres no logic to this suggestion, but I'd have a go at taking out one of your RAM modules and seeing if that makes a difference

ye some motherboards when installing new hardware u need to remove all but one ram stick i think

methinks extra strain on the southbridge means the mobo cant supply enough jucie to get it to boot, i'd go into the bios, up the volts a notch or two and try again.

Yeah it works flawlessly when I have an 8600gt plugged in. Im getting a new motherboard hopefully Tuesday so I'll see for definite then.

I've tried swapping ram sticks around/taking them out and still no luck. The computer doesnt post at all, nothing comes up on the screen and I dont get any signal on the screen.

@I fancy boys: which voltage do you suggest I up?

I've only got an nforce spp voltage. I take it this isnt the southbridge?

I remember when I built one of my first computers a while ago, I had a similar problem. Turned out to be the fact that I needed to reset the cmos, have a look in your motherboard manual for instructions.

Update:

Right, changed the motherboard to a Asus Striker Extreme, exact same thing happens only this time I get 3 beeps when I try the 9800GTX+. The 8600GT works flawlessly. Its driving me crazy because I tried the graphic card in another computer last week and it works fine... looks like I'm going to have to send it back

Update2:

Just tried on a different monitor, same thing happens. Has to be graphic card
