That's actually a heatspreader, though the actual core is probably still bigger than the new 9800GTX core because of the smaller process size.The Ultra G80 core was MASSIVE! No wonder that its still arguably the best single card available!
I've just looked up that memory, it's GDDR4 with a speed of anywhere between 0.7ns and 0.9ns depending on which specific chip it is. It's also packaged as 16Mx32 which, if I'm not mistaken, means the eight chips on the board gives you 512MB.
Yup, supposodly their 1teraflop card that was meant to come on nov was the gx2, coming up on 4 months late. =/
