Hi,
I've had my pc since friday last week and today i've been having strange problems with the graphics on it. The graphics freeze and get sort of purple lines on it before the graphics cards seems to just run off. The screen goes black, but music/game sound keeps playing.
I can't manage to get a screen shot, so i've had a quick google and found a picture that shows a similar problem. it's happening on the desktop and in games.
Specs.
intel Q6600
Asus P5q Pro
EVGA 9800GTX Superclocked
Corsair 650W PSU
OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-8500

after e-mailing EVGA last night, they replied saying to check drivers which i'm about to do now.
they also said "It is generally a high % that this would be due to the card." so they know the main reason is because the card is faulty?

Well I got the same card delivered 2 weeks ago as a RMA replacement for my 8800gtx.

It does the exact thing. Sometimes I can be browsing these forums other times its whilst I am gaming.

I read in their forums that Evga reduced the need for 2x6pins to just the one and in doing so, some people reckon that some psu's maybe unable to supply the card with enough juice that it can lead to this type of display.
There fix is to use the molex to 6 pin adaptor but best practice would be to use two seperate molexs on seperate cables and then see if that fixes it.

At the moment I have mines in a box which I am giving to my sons new build. I bought the xfx 1gb 4870 card as I was pretty hacked off in the way Evga dealt with my rma but hey thats another story!.

Good luck. Hope that helps.

had the same problem on a ti4400 many years ago...and it was due to bloe caps...are there any caps that have "domed" tops on the card? Although probs got all solid caps now...so not sure if u can tell.

whack furmark on and see if it corrupts

no corruption running furmark, got upto 71degrees max but that's with all my fans as low as they'll go and the GPU fan on auto(about 35%).
it'll be cooler than that while gaming because i turn up the fans to cool my whole system.
temps at the moment are
GPU:33
CPU:30/30/25/23

Edit: just tried to register the card on EVGA's site and it say
6/2/2009 is a future date and is therefore not valid
Please reenter the date of purchase

Seems they are a year behind, great!!

I had that problem also on an old ti4600 and it was a blown capacitor as was said above.
