hi, got a 9800GTX+ for xmas. it has 2 6pin power connectors on it, do i need to connect both of them for it to work properly?
also, i am planning to connect it via HDMI, will audio be transfered via this port as standard or do i need to use a optical lead, if so, do i have to remove the cooling part of the card to get to the plug as i cannot see it anywhere obvious.

you will need two connectors to power it. Audio ove3r hdmi should just work, or set it up in control panel.

If you wanna go sli I have one for sale in MM for £55 :p

you might need to get a DVI-to-HDMI adapter for it too.

it came with all the adaptors and i had one for my 9500GT but that needed the optical lead from card to mobo for audio to work, hence why i asked as i dont wanna spend tomorrow morning setting it up to find i need to take it all out again ;)

To get audio via the HDMI on the card you will again need to connect a S/PDIF cable from the motherboard to the card.

But didn't you order on for your 9500GT? so all should be OK.

yes i have the lead, i just cant see the socket on the 9800, so im wondering is it burried under the heatsink?

also, now i have a my HDDs and GFX sorted, i have some money from xmas, would it be worth upgrading my mobo or would i not really gain that much from it?

Here it is:

As for further upgrades - as you currently have a P35 and a Q8300 I don't think you will gain much from a new s775 motherboard (or s775 CPU for that matter). I'd suggest putting the money in the bank if you are happy with the performance you are getting from your newly upgraded system, either that or buy some s****y new peripherals/games.

lol found it now, cheers for that, saves me waisting all day tomorrow stripping it and swearing a lot.
got my xbox360 controller too :D so gaming should be better.

just hoping the 9800 will fit as its very long:(

does the spdif only fit one way on the card?

edit* yeah it does, the mobo side has a spdif and gnd connector, and the mobo has +5v, SPDIF_OUT and GND, so do i connect the SPDIF_OUT and GND and leave the +5v blank?

Yes, just leave the +5V unconnected and it should work fine.

looked on my mobo and 2 problems, 1st the card dont fit its too damn long so might have to do some chopping of the case  and 2nd, the manual says it should have the SPDIF socket, but there aint one on the board, just the marks where one should be :(

so any suggestions of what would be a good mobo that will cater to all my needs.

Ah, well that is a problem.

Personally, instead of replacing the motherboard -I would buy some half-decent speakers and possibly a sound card. It would cost less than a decent s775 motherboard and the sound quality would be much better than integrated TV speakers (which is presumably what you will be using with the HDMI audio).

its going through my tv which has the speakers connected to it, so i would rather it all went through that.

would the P5Q-SE be ok at only £65 it doesnt seem to lack anything i need, and i did have a standard P5Q before it went bang and that has the right socket on it for the audio.

just found that i dont have any 6pin pci-e power adaptors :( will the card work at all without them, ie not to its full performance or does it require them?

also am i better getting a psu with them on the rails or using the molex adaptors?
