9800Pro

I too have a 9800 Pro and mostly play BF2 at 1280x1024 medium settings with no issues with frame rates. Paired with a P4 2.8 Northwood and 2GB of PC3200 DDR the machine has served me well for 2.5 years. I may replace the system with a Conroe based platform in the autumn.

If you want to replace a 9800 Pro look at a 7800GS (the Gainward 7800GS+ is actually a 7800GT GPU if you can source one), that should extend your AGP based system an extra 12 months or so. 2GB of RAM will help too.

9800 pro is slower than a standard 6600GT , and 2nd hand i wouldnt touch one for no more than £35, so 9800 pro even less... its like 4 years old man !!!

As long as you don't expect too much the 9800Pro is still a good card. I only upgraded from my 9600XT fairly recently and that handled 99% of games just fine - even with a bit of AA/AF. It saw me through FarCry, Doom3 and HL2 without a problem at medium/high settings. And, OK, you might not get HDR but big deal - it's over-rated anyway.

Well said mate, I just recently changed my card to a 6800GT and the only reason for that was because I upgraded my motherboard and had to go PCI express. If I was staying with AGP there is no doubt at all that I would have kept my 9800 Pro.

Unless you are a serious hardcore gamer I reckon that a 9800 Pro will be fine for most things for the next 12 months.

I only see X850Pro's for around £140. Cheapest XT was £180. I guess you can flash a Pro to XT, like I did with my 9800pro.

Looks like there still is a strong demand for 2nd hand 9800 PRO. Mine was just sold on ebay within 12hrs for the asking price of £45, it did have an AC cooler though. Fair price when you consider i had all the original box, manuals, CSCZ free game etc.
