Got an upgrade itch but not sure if it's really worth doing, pc is used mainly for gaming, would there be a noticeable difference going from 9900k to 11900k? i game at 3440x1440. Anyone else made this jump? Thanks.

not in my imo , also you would need to change the board in that case I would go with 5900x instead of the 11900k is limited to 8 cores 5900x can be had for around £500 not sure how much the 11900k costs but thats just my thoughts

Just checked 11900k is going for £548.99

I may consider amd as long as it would perform better than intel in gaming, I think I should do a little more research, so in your opinion guys what is the best cpu for gaming? or should I stick with the 9900k for a while longer?

AMD stuff right now its pretty much top dog. However your 9900k is very good and I doubt its holding things back at 3440 x 1440. Its always worth doing your own homework, check CPU and GPU usage when playing your own games. Would not surprise me if even your 3090 is the limit in most cases with settings cranked up.

Hardware unboxed did a good review yesterday infact of 10700k vs 11700k vs 5800x. drop in your 9900k for the 10700k in terms of performance with a mild OC and you can see your like 3% behind 5800 with average of 32 games around 9 min 20 sec mark at 1440p. there are some edge case games, but unless your playing them, would not make sense to upgrade imo, just OC your 9900k.

Thanks guys, I'll check out the video later Radox-0, yes I'll do a little home work and have a good think, I'll also try a mild overclock on my 9900k as it's been at stock since purchase, I'm having no performance issues at all but you know how it is with us lot, we just get that upgrade itch and it just sometimes needs a good scratch lol.

What is a good CPU in your, in your opinion?;)

Your not wrong! moved to a 8700k to 9900k for sake of it when with my RTX 3090 on 4k OLED made no difference to performance as I am in most instances GPU limited! As you say itch is real. At this point, with Intel's current platform being End of Line and supposedly AM4, would wait to see what happens next gen on both sides IMO.

Yup, 8700k to 9900k just because I could, good to see resizable bar support on z370/z390 boards but new bios still in beta, well at least it is on my asus hero x, i'll wait till it comes out of beta before updating assuming I stick with the 9900k which is very likely now after watching comparison vids. :-)

There are some scenarios in games that still become cpu limited or memory bandwidth limited at 4k even on my 5950x but they are generally few and far between

A difference? Yes, enough of a difference? In my opinion, No. Wait for the newer parts coming end of year.

Wait for Alder Lake. If its anything like Sandybridge/Skylake its the time to jump ;)

I went from a 5820k to a 5600x and at 1440p the difference is hardly noticeable lol.

I went from an 8700K to a 5900X (via a 5800X which will shortly be my brother's) and saw next to no difference in the games I'm playing. A 9900K will serve you well for a good while yet (especially with an OC) and at higher resolutions won't be holding your 3090 back in any meaningful way.
