9ms ping time over internet! (er.. wow!)

I've just done a speed test with Xfinity and received a ping time of 9ms. I have never seen a ping so low across the internet.

Bear in mind I am running over 2.4Ghz wifi connection to the router in the next room. I just changed my usb adapter to an Asus EA-N66 (450+450) and put it in bridge mode.

Rather stunned.

Anyone got lower ping to the server a speed test server? (For reference I did also try the ookla speedtest.net and got 16ms).
 
It's an insult to be using wifi on such a connection.

Get the drill out and cable it up!

lol. :D It's not my house, we are staying with our in-laws till we get our own place. Believe me, if it was my place, it would have been fully wired by now!

How was your experience with Comcast to get it installed? Is it as bad as the Internet would lead us to believe?

I wasn't there when it was installed. It was over two years ago. Sorry. The service itself has been relatively good. I have never had to use the customer service as it's not my house (as above). I know people at work have issues with comcast though, and they always say Verizon is better.

I'll happily ping 9-10ms all day long to UK servers on BT Infinity. Really impressed with the low latencies on it.

Is there no way to use some powerlines? I thought powerlines were better than wifi? Wi-fi is last resort right?

From my experience i get less latency and more bandwith with powerlines than i do wifi. Also there is a few people in the house which use wifi too so it gets laggy when im in a game and they start using facebook.
Powerlines solved all this for me.

Will there ever become a point when we can have low pings to US servers from the UK and vice versa or is it technically impossible?
 
You will have to wait for star trek subspace transmissions for instant communication across light years :P But otherwise yes you can only get it as low as the speed of light and it will always end up moving slightly slower due to the cables ext slowing it down slightly.
 
I get 12ms on speedtest.net, i remember when i first got broadband i was getting about the same ping on counterstrike servers, i thought it would be faster by now. Come on scientists, sort it out. :)
 
I get around 19ms on speedtest.net but 30-40ms on multiplay.

BT Infinity 40Mbps package at the moment, but considering going back up to the 80Mbps package as it'd give me an extra 10Mbps or so.
