A Battlefield 2142 thread

upgrade, turn settings down or stop downloading/uploading.

Seriously this is one of the smoothest games I've played in a long while.

No no. I have to agree with BassPunk. Inside the titan is very laggy compared to the rest of the game.

My mate and I both experience it and we're on completley different systems.

Almost seems like a mixture of server lag and hardware lag, even though the hardware is definitley capable.

hmmm, the only time i get "lag" is when i have a torrent on upload(jerky, as if i have a chain and ball attached to my leg), or i transfer down the stairs into the titan and it reloads the map/geometry.(only for a slight second though)

Tried the usual? Defrag and such. (I had to defrag about 5 times before the game would even boot up :/)

Odd that it should hit you so bad there though, everyone who I've played with has echoed what I have said about the smoothness and ease of gaming.

I gave the game a good thrashing then defragged by access. Can't get much better than that tbh.

Got an upgrade in the pipeline anyway.

Figures, well that's your opinion sir.

Well im not being funny, im genuinly curious, the draw distance seems to be much less than BF2 (even when both on 100% draw) BF2 looks a lot better than 2142 (more detail, much higher draw distance), is there a way of 'forcing' 2142 to a lot further draw distance?

I'm having a nightmare with this.

Trying to play online, and I can't get any servers to appear. I've tried turning off Windows Firewall, and i've put my pc in my routers DMZ, and still nothing.

Trying to play offline, and it keeps kicking me back to windows after about 30 seconds playing. Event viewer shows the following.

The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: 7.

Anyone any ideas?

Are you using a No-CD patch robz? I know a lot of people have had bother even doing anything remotely online with it.

No, i'm playing with the DVD in the drive.

I've un-installed, and re-installed and can now access online games. But its still kicking me out after a couple of minutes with the same error.

I don't think it's specifically a BF2142 problem, this guy has had a similar problem with other games (Including BF2 funny enough): Linky

I reckon a format+reinstall XP would fix the problem.

Edit: Forget that, help answering your problem might be here: Linky

Check that you've got the latest version of Microsoft Framework 2.0 with all available updates, it's a possible cause that you should eliminate.

This post in TotalBF2142 forums describes how to how to block Battlefield 2142 ads:
If you run bf2142 along side software like TDImon free TCP/UDP monitor, http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/TdiMon.html, you will find that one of the remote connections that BF2142.exe uses is to 72.3.184.153:17475

If you go to NetworkSolutions and WHOIS the IP Address you will get:

WHOIS Record For
72.3.184.153

Record Type: IP Address

IGA Technologies, LLC RSPC-68993-1122139655 (NET-72-3-184-144-1)
72.3.184.144 - 72.3.184.159

IGA is IGA Worldwide and they handle the ads.

!!!Gotcha!!!

Possible solutions is to block port 17475 or better yet block ip address range 72.3.184.144 - 72.3.184.159.

I did and the game ran find. Please note that they maybe using other ports and ip addresses so in the upcoming days I'll do more testing.
In other news, EA has posted a solution to the message boards detailing a method of "unlocking your unlocks":
We have identified an issue in-game where your rank may not update immediately after earning the requisite number of points. If your account is not properly ranking up in Battlefield 2142, you may want to try moving to another ranked server in order for your account to update. Once you score a point on the new ranked server, the account should automatically update to the new rank. If your account is missing more than one rank, each additional point scored will update your account to the next rank earned.

I'm not bothered about blocking these ads personally, fact is that when EA get the stats back about how long people look at the adverts they'll see that absolutely nobody is going to sit and stare at a poxy virtual billboard whilst they could be running about enjoying themselves and working towards their next rank/unlock.
The advertisers will also see this, pull out because it's pointless and the idea will never be repeated.

Just had my 1st game, i was lagging like hell, settings maxed apart from dynamic which was set at low, did the renderer.drawfps 1 and got 15.1/66 tried setting the affinty to 1 but that didnt work ethier going to try and force a screen res of 1280x1024 which sorted out my lagg in the beta.

I'm running it on an Athlon 64 3800+ (single core) and a OcUK 7900GS 256MB at full settings (forced 1440x900 res) and it rarely displays any sort of lag. The performance does seem a little 'pot luck', in fact I find sometimes high ping servers run smoother than low ones, it's all quite illogical.

damm just tried another game and got a bsod from my sound card, it was hissing and crackiling then bsod, have my sound on x-fi and on high, i thought this probelm on occured when u used ultra-high ?
