A Battlefield 2142 thread

It'll be absolutely packed with bugs just like its predecessor. Sniper rifles still don't work properly in bf2 so many months after its release. And thats if you can get it working in the first place. So don't expect a fix for that anytime soon.

I've had two different problems on two different pcs with bf2, both rendered it unplayable, neither had a proper fix. As bf2142 is the same engine, and i got a bsod just trying to run the demo, its not that i don't want to buy it but i can't.

I've just logged a support ticket with ea about the medic revival bug because its driving me mad. Half the time when a medic revives you you end up with their kit.

Funny, i just bought Call of Duty 2 today. Guess what? I didn't need any patches, i didn't need to install it in safemode, i didn't need to reinstall windows, and i don't have to put up with any bugs. It doesn't crash all the time, it hasn't got a memory leak... ohh and its not made by ea. In fact it just works.

I thought there was a 1.2 and 1.3 patch out for COD2 and has been for months? If you want to play on all servers? Maybe I'm wrong :p

Not exactly one of the buggiest mainstream games ever created though is it?
Ok thats one minor problem, i wouldn't mind if bf2 had 5 or 6 problems like that.

I've had bf2 from the day it was released, the server browser didn't even work on release day, it crashed constantly. The first patch caused all the servers to crash.

I mean how many other games have been released with memory leaks? That sort of thing rarely crops up in beta.

Bf2 is still in beta and has been since 'release'.

I'm starting to like it the more I play it. I find conquest pretty boring, but titan mode certainly helps. I just dont think any of the units are fun when your playing conquest. Wierd I know, but ...

Have to admint I'm right into COD2 online atm.......

Plays sweet and looks great @ 1680 x 1050 DX9 .......!!!

Been lost in battle for hours at the weekend :D

Played it earlier, first impression is its not as fun as mohaa and the maps are a little too big, but that may change when i get to know the maps better. Enjoying the missions, which is a first for me as i never normally play single player. Runs nicely at 1440x900, which reminds me, bf2142 doesn't support widescreen which could be annoying for some.

Tbh i would prefer to play bf2, the sad thing is its such a great game if only it wasn't so buggy. Its a new genre really.
Difficult to say much about bf2142 as i can't play the demo, and there is no way in hell i'll be buying it as i know it won't run. It looks to me initially a bit of a dissapointment, as its the same graphics engine which wasn't that brilliant to begin with, and obviously its likely to suffer from a lot of the same bugs and problems which is the main issue for me as i've suffered so much with bf2.

Yeah, it sort of creeps up on you...
I'm enjoying it a fair bit atm, but I wish they'd put grenades in the demo, they're so important to the assault class. Ah well, it's something extra to look forward to when the game slips through my letterbox on the 20th :D

Titan mode is the new objective based gameplay that Dice/ea have implemented, its a big flying ship which has 4 consoles inside which protect the generator, howvere the titan has a instant death shield , u land on it u die, so you have to capture missle silos to take out there shields.

After several hours of playing both game modes, both sides and experimenting will all the classes and vehicles im not too impressed.

The FPS element is really shoddy, no different crosshairs and im struggling to get the mouse sense to a really smooth level but it just won't go. If thats not bad enough, general shooting only happens when you are around a capture point/silo but its let down by simple environment.

There's no real cover around the silos, no good sniper points or buildings to make yourself illusive and if there is, its too simple to guess someone is there and even easier to flush them out with a vehicle of somekind.

That's another part really, balance. The vehicle's are just far too powerfull (namely that strider thing) and this is the deciding factor that dictates the best class is anti-vehicle (the one with the rocket launcher) because you still have a nice SMG weapon to support with and yet if a tank/strider shows up (You will always see one) you have a chance to take it out.

The worst factor me though is the map we've been given. Touching on the environment issue again i just feel its too simple to find and kill anyone not in a vehicle.

Overall it's pretty fun, but it's not a brilliant game. Essentially they are just offering a new game mode with a futuristic look. I see no reason for anyone who likes BF2 to cross over unless they like the new look.

To be fair, they have given a very vehicle heavy map in the demo, I'm sure there'll be plenty of infantry friendly levels in the final version.
In the (very annoying) advert slideshow thing there's clearly a few urban levels, which are always good for those who like to snipe.
The only good thing about vehicle kills is that you've got a good chance it'll be a multi-kill.

I think that there is an anti-vehicle unlock for one of the other classes, so that will give another option when it comes to vehicle heavy maps.
There'll probably be a lot more anti-vehicle squads knocking about online due to the heavy armour of the vehicles available, plus I'm sure there'll be an upgrade to the existing rocket launchers to even it up anyway.

Agreed, but I suppose it gives a good demonstration of the different vehicles available. I'd of preferred an urban map though.

I disagree, I love BF2 but I'll be crossing over, 2142 has a new feel, which takes some getting used to but I feel will be worth it in the end.
Also, at risk of being cynical, I'd imagine once 2142 is released you'll be waiting an awfully long time for any further BF2 patches.
Possibly Eternity!

Ill probs end up buying it tbh ive totally had enough of BF2 now bored of it so might be nice to have a change of game with future stuff, who knows may make me want to play BF2 again.

Im quite happy with bf2 after 1.4 because of Infantry only :D

They have stopped making patches for bf2 now tho :( which is very annoying as there are still some 'issues' like some major hitbox issues.. but saying that i think 2142's guns (in the demo) and seriously lacking the ability to shoot in a straight line and seem stupidly weak aswell..

Yeah, the 2142 guns are strange, I find that they are quite accurate close up and from a long distance, but at medium range they're all over the place.
I wouldn't say they're weak, it's more that armour is too strong now, a few shots to the head will still drop anyone (obviously sniper rifles are still one shot kills with a headshot).

About the strider aka the walker Oberon, they wont be as poerwful when the full game is realesed as one of the unlocks is emp nades, lob one of those at the walker and its rendered usless for 3-5 seconds, this is where teamplay is needed, then a guy can run over and plant the rdx4? aka C4 maybe using the camoflague unlock to stay hidden, also there is an engi unlock, mines that can track enemy movement also a rifle weapon. So yes the walker is hard to take down at the moment in the demo, but beware when the unlocks become avaiable they will become just sitting ducks :D
