Good idea but i find having the points system gives me something to work at, keeps me motivated to play.

I agree with this, I found myself hell bent on ranking up to Corporal Gold one night and ended up playing most of the night in order to do it

Yeah, it does give the game an edge, plus it adds that all important 'just one more go' hook.

Got my squad leader bronze last night, the spawn beacon is already reaping rewards!
I lucked out last night and got a squad who were all doing as they were told, racked up a sizeable number of squad leader points, all of a sudden conquest is worth playing for the points too! Tonight I'm at the footy (Villa are in for a spanking, I hope!), so it's a night off, but on Thursday I'll be working towards my Titan Defence silver, I just need the 15 points now.
Only about 5 hours away from the Gold Assault Badge too

whilst in some ways i agree, but remember bf 1942 without ranks and no stat padding ruining your gaming experience?
yet that game still provided one of , if not the best' online fps with massive maps and vehicles
we didnt need stats to 'have one more go' or rankings or awards etc
it proves that stats are not a requirement for motivation to play a game
geez, if all i start to care about are some fictional awards over gameplay/fun
thats when i quit

Aye, i'm about 20 Squad Leader success points away from being able to get Squad leader silver if i can get 20 squad spawn beacons IAR. I'm also very close to Pistol Silver. Got my bronze knife after running like a maniac, so now the only Badge i have left to get with Assault is the Silver Medic one which is really irritating me. Then i can finally move onto the other classes!

Well, i'll hit captain silver when i get my SL Gold and/or Medic Gold... 15 heals and 30 spawns in a round on the beacon are REALLY difficult, even when being farmed attacking the enemy titan

I agree in principle, however the stats and unlocks have been implemented well in bf2142, they made bf2 a pretty annoying experience at times what with all the stat padding and exploits available, however in bf2142 they seem to fit pretty seamlessly into the gaming experience. Dice have obviously learned lessons from bf2 because 2142 offers no stat padding oppurtunites and the vehicles and weapons are functional and fun to use yet don't have the scope for ownage on the scale of say the Hind helo on the bf2 sharqui peninsula map.

hahah, what planet are you living on !!!
bf2142 has the worst stat padding of any new game !!!
i know of a perfectly legal way to score upto 4pts every second which can be done the whole round !!
and its not a hack , its just something that happens (do not ask how)
EA have learnt absoFECKINlutely nothing from previous bf games, and its us the paying customer who has to put up with it.

bugs, patch before release, exploits, hacking , unbalanced weapons etc etc
new patch delayed to fix the stat padding we see now..

any system that employs a score based reward will inevitably be exploited and abused, its just the nature of some gamers

oh, and yes i enjoy the game incase you think im an EA hater ;p

Right got all my basic badges apart from knife and pistol anyone got any tips how i can achieve these without ripping my hair out, i recall how frustrated i got on bf2 with the knife kills.

Well if that's how you see it then that's ok. Game seem alright to me though, if you get on a decent server with good players then the game works much better than bf2 imo. Haven't seen any stat padding myself yet.

The one place you notice it happening is on the titan guns, watch and you will see players drop ammo crates near the gunners hence getting re-supply points everytime they shoot them.

Ah i see. Still you'll always get idiots who for some reason just want to find an easy way to rack up points rather than actually play the game. Can't see why tbh lol. What is the point!!!!

I'm a point whore yes. But it isn't the getting of points that gets me going in 2142, its the speed and fast paced gaming that gets me there i enjoy so much
