I plunged for a canon eos 650d comes with the kit lense - 18-55mm its good dont get me wrong ive took some very sharp snaps, but im guessing im going to have to invest in a better lense, im wanting something sharper, prefably a m acro lense for close up work, what would people suggest here, along with other kit and some tutorials to get the best out of this, im a beginner but loving every minute

Understanding Exposure - Bryan Peterson. A must read, imo.:)

Don't bother to invest in other lenses yet. Really, don't. Others will no doubt tell you to spend like money is going out of fashion on the latest gear, and might even try to convince you to re-mortgage your house to pay for it all, and that if you don't, you just aren't doing it right. However this is just daft. Your existing 18-55 will be taking more than sharp enough pictures - I humbly suggest that you're not that well practiced yet (I'm certainly not - have owned a camera since August) and that the kit you've got is not the limiting factor.

As above, really.

Dont invest any more into kit until you've nailed using it right, a more expensive lens wont take any better pictures for you at this stage.

Understanding Exposure is pretty much the bible, but you'll find plenty of online tutorials that can get you through. Talk Photography is a great forum for beginners.

If you're dead set on macro, try some macro extension rings. You can get some pretty cheap if you shop around and dont mind unbranded while you learn.

I can only echo the above really. Understanding Exposure is pretty much all you at this point.

Always remember that new kit does immediately mean better photos.

My personal advice would be to concentrate on subject and composition. Before you take a shot think whether it has subject and then think about where that subject is in the frame. .

Take multiple shots of the same thing framed all kinds of different ways and see what you find interesting and the most important bit is have fun with it.
