a bit faster...

You're always chasing more and more power, I got tired of that, so now I drive something with very little...

Personally I prefer good handling characteristics over ultimate power..

Noticable and fun enough to warrant swapping a 140 version for one you reckon?

Thats impossible for me to say as I dont know your situation, I wouldnt get in debt for it but theres a big difference, you need to drive one, I used to work at a Toyota dealership so I used to drive them all the time and I would like a Corolla T-Sport next coming from owning honda's for the past 6 years

The DC2 is tired, it was a legendary car but most are now just tatty old mid 90's Honda's. The Celica is a much more fresh car. Perhaps it doesn't have quite the handling polish so you wont be able to kid yourself that you drive around Tsukuba on a daily basis, but it's hardly a credible alternative IMHO.

Well IMHO you're wrong.

DC2 is a great car and although there are tatty ones out there, spending a bit of money sorting out the most important things (bushes, brakes etc) you will have yourself one hell of a car.

Doing my bushes this summer along with some coilovers and replacing the brakes for Front brembos + hawk pads with OEM rear discs and hawk pads (total £250) realy will make it perfect. A celica is still a boring looking mundane piece of mud.

Have you driven a Celica?

How can a Celica look boring compared to a DC2? Only DC2 worth having is a JDM 98+ and even then they look dated

UKDM are overpriced and rot like pears

Why, are there 2002 DC2's around?

In fact I think there are, and if not late 2001.

It certainly has its drawbacks but wil give the OP a lot of excitment compared to just popping up the celica range a bit!

Oh no i wouldnt be getting in debt or anything for it. In fact if i did it wisely it looks like i could make a straight swap in terms of money (or at the most it would only cost me a couple of hundred quid). The only extra outlay would ofcourse be the insurance which looks to be £100 - £200 more for the 190 version.

It is only the hassle of swapping cars/finding a decent example of a vvtli/t sport e.t.c.

I never thought i'd hear such rubbish from you. Advising someone to buy a car simply because it's newer, ignoring the fact that it's nothing like as good a drivers car. What's next, buy a Kia Magentis instead of an e39 because it's newer, doesn't quite have the handling polish though ;)

I've alwasy liked the look of the Celicas. I rememeber having a look around a couple of local ones about 3 years back. Its a very good looking car for the money and a very tempting car for the price bracket. Get it in Grey and you are onto a winner.

Can't really comment on the 140 v 190 as I haven't driven either but I've been in a friends MR2 roadster (same engine?) and it just didn't seem fast enough to get a kick out of putting your foot down :p

Go for it :)

In time, yes. Count the E34 recommendations from me. Hell, count the E39 recommendations?

Its like our poor old FTO. A brilliant car, but despite being lovingly cared for, looked after and polished it got to the stage where it was just... past it. Every MOT more structural welding and fighting rust, etc etc. There comes a time that unless its a garage queen it becomes difficult to fight the onset of age related degredation.

The DC2 (And our FTO!) is a great car. It always was a great car and it always will be remembered as a great car but let go, the time for it to be considered as a credible choice for Mr Average Into His Cars is gone. The DC2 is not the preserve of the hardcore Honda enthusiast, collectors and people who keep garage queens.

It's never going to be a credible choice for a guy who has 2000's Toyota and fancies something a bit quicker.

DC2 is an Excellent car. So well set up and VERY fun to be in.

Probably the most fun car i've been in TBH, And i've been in skylines / Evos / S14s etc

A friend of a friend had a 190, the engine went bang after 30k.

Not a big fan of the looks myself, and couldn't bare changing my car to well another one exactly the same with a power hike (albeit a far bit)

This is true. I appreciate the suggestions but I am not looking for a project car or a car that is going to take a lot of extra maintenance. I just want something that is a bit faster and more exciting to drive but still reasonable in running costs and every day driving. Judging from the views in this thread it looks like making the step to a 190/T sport version might be the thing to do.

Even if I (personally) love the looks and the car anyway? I would probably get a different colour just for a change :p

Are the FTO's not renowned for being quite crappy?

Cupra-R? I think they are around that price range now, will feel a lot quicker than the Celica.

Do you specifically like a VTEC style power delivery though?
