I had this problem when I got mine last year. Go onto the linksys website and find the latest firmware, make sure you change your country to the country you actually live in as some are different!

There is great 3rd party firmware out DD-WRT and Tomato (which is what I'm using on my WRT54GL) it's got fantastic coverage and connection is rock solid!!

Unlike NTL at the minute, but thats another story :)

Do you have a link to those firmwares by any chance please? also I have seen posts saying that there are differant versions of this Wireless router where do I find that information, the firmware I'm running on now is version V1.00.08.

Thanks for the help

http://www.polarcloud.com/tomato

That's what I've been using for about a month now, and I much prefer it to any other firmware!

As above thats the same I have been using too

Thanks to Basmic :)

Or search for DD-WRT on Google but I feel tomato is far better imo ;)

Is it just a matter of d/loading the firmware to a folder and then clicking firmware upgrade on the management page of the router?

Thanks, sorry for all the Q's

Hmm just checked the website out, it would appear my router is not supporeted by that firmware :( my serial number does not match anything on the site

I'd be tempted to try - there's plenty of de-bricking methods floating about on the net. :D

I get better signal strength once I updated the firmware the Linksys standard stuff didn't seem to work too well for me?

Thanks for all the replies, just one last question does this router allow you to see the information about the line? I can't for the life of me find it if it does
