Hello all,

Bit of a spec me thread as I'm looking for the best way to boost a wireless signal, would a wireless repeater be what I'm looking for and, if so, what one. If I were feeling a bit braver would I be better off buying a dd wrt compatible router and flashing that for this capability.

Unfortunately running cable isn't an option, nor is modifying the original router in any way.

Thanks in advance,

Antar.

Depends on where the router is positioned - if its central in your house then a repeater wont help much unless you only want a boost in one direction.

I'd get another router with removable antennas and a couple of decent high gain antennas to go on it.

I don't really want to be spending too much on equipment that I can't take away with me. I'm trying to improve reception on my end from the landlords broadband (don't worry, it's all above board as I have permission, and the password). Therefore movement or modification of the original router is out of the question.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe something like this Linksys WRE54G would be exactly what I'm looking for.

Can anyone confirm or deny this theory please?

It also looks like I can use DD-WRT firmware to make a repeater. If I were to go down this route what would be the best/cheapest router for flashing?
