I've been wiki'ing this morning, and thought I'd read up on the first iPod and thus the follow-on's.

Very interesting really, go on wiki for a complete description of the history of the iPod.

Here is a breakdown of ALL ipod in order of release. Quite interesting.

So who has the first couple of iPod's then? My first was a Photo iPod! Now its the iPhone and Shuffle.

Good read.

The random apostrophe's are killing me. I won't grumble, but I will try and annoy the nex't per'son's. I think I might have a little iPoD fetish. I got my fir'st job (and I'm 'still there) in February 2004 so that explain why it 'started buying iPoD's.

1. 2 x iPoD's mini's - lost both of them before I had any battery-life problem's.
2. iPoD nano (4GB) 1G - gave to my brother.
3. iPoD nano (8GB) 3G - 'sitting around collecting dust.
4. iPoD touch 16GB - made redundant by my iPhoNe.
5. iPhoNe (8GB) 1G - my current music player.

Thi's probably just prove's what a nerd I am though.

That's pretty cool. My iPod ownership:

Standard format:
20GB 3rd gen
30GB 5th gen * 2 (1 got stolen)
160GB 6th gen/classic

Nano
8GB 2nd gen

Shuffle
1GB 1st gen
1GB 2nd gen

Other
iPhone 8GB 1st gen

oh dear.

edit: PAC, normally I don't pick up on this sort of thing, but just in case you care: 's indicates ownership of something, or a missing letter, so iPod's means something that an iPod owns, or iPod *something*s - iPods is plural. I'm not being a ****, it's just something that really irritates me.

My third gen is also going strong, they seem the best built of them all. I think that if you have a 3rd gen then you own one of the first 5 million ipods ever made. I think they have currently sold around 150million.

had a 20gb 3G pod - and just(!) replaced it with a 16gb touch. I use my pod connected via a dock to my car, so battery life never bothered me, tho the hard disk finally gave up the other week so i just replaced it.

The amount of stuff you got in a 3G box was ace - a dock and charger, cables, ipod protection belt clip thing, really nice presentation cube box etc... what do you get now? a box almost as big as the old 3G ipod, with some useless dock addons (sold seperately!), a crappy velvet bag which offers no protection (so you buy a seperate case), a usb cable - firewire seemed faster, and a tiny box with john lennon on it.

still, i do love the touch :)

my first is the current 6th Gen Ipod, iphone and itouch.

I didn't like the ones prior really, anything 4th gen and before.

my first was an ipod mini as that was the first release which wasn't too expensive.

Then purchased a 1st gen ipod shuffle before getting 2nd gen 8gb nano.

I still have a 1st gen 5GB with moving scrollwheel. Battery is completely kaput but it still works when plugged in! I wonder if it would sell on eBay? :p

Had a 5th gen iPod Video 30GB in black which worked great but sold on due to purchase of an iPhone.

Also got a 1GB 2nd gen Shuffle for jogging.

I've had an iPod Mini 6GB and a 2nd gen iPod Nano 8GB. The Mini was damn good, been far less impressed with the Nano though. Don't really like the new Nanos and I think the chrome back is a massive step backwards, so I'll probably look elsewhere for my next player.

As Thiras mentions above ^ the youtube videos are excellent. Upto Part 3 so far.

Damn, for some strange reason (fanboism?) I really really want a 1st generation iPod!!

:p

I have one. It still works fine despite being a bit scratched up. I'm not interested in selling it before you ask - I still use it from time to time.

FWIW it was part of the first UK shipment of PC-compatible iPods, so a very early 1st gen.

I had one from that batch aswell, but the earphone port some how got damaged when generation 3 arrived ;)
Kinda wish they had stuck with the moving wheel tho, gave it a completely different feel.
