A budget ND1000 filter review - 10 stopper!

I'm happy with the shot I took with mine in post 15. Could easily have done a longer exposure too. To be fair I need to get more use of of mine..

Go fo it, can't go wrong for the price.

Another one worth considering is the Haida Pro II MC 10 stop ND.

I've had mine for a couple of years and its great, very nicely coated which repels water and makes it a breeze to clean. Can be had for around £30.

Was about to post in this and revive it

My
77mm nd1000 camdiox
And
77-86mm variable nd4-1000 camdiox (don't understand why it's 77-86)
Arrived today

If I can use the nd1000 I will, but I suspect the variable will be much more useful
If I need anymore I can just stack

ND filter

I was going to purchase one of those from SRB ( as I was in their shop near Dunstable) but the person in the shop said that they cause vignetting on full frame wide angles on anything wider than 24mm. So only got a graduated filter. Shame as I am looking forward to some long exposure shots.

Buy a bigger size than you need and use a £2 step up ring?

Had these same warnings about filters on the 10-22 on a crop. Basically if you stack them (i.e. if you have a UV/protector on and put the ND on top of it) then you'll get vignetting but just the ND alone shouldn't cause vignetting, even at 10mm on a crop or 16mm on FF, unless the filter is abnormally thick.

As soon as mine shows up I'll check it on the 16-35.

I was out on a dull overcast day with a hoya 8 stop ND filter, at F22, ISO 50, and a polariser on top, and I still couldn't shoot any slower than 1.5s

That was a Sony A7 though. Need something much much darker.

Yeah that's why I don't think I'll ever buy any ND filters less than 10 stop. First time I tried my 10 stop during the day I was getting 3-4 second exposures or something!

Obviously as the day goes on the exposure times can get pretty long if that's what you're after but when sunlight is pretty strong you'll need something very dark if you want 10+ seconds

Which filter? The Camdiox 10 stop? That's what I have and 25 seconds at midday wasn't possible :P

Well a 25 second exposure with a 10-stopper equates to 1/40th without it at the same aperture and ISO.

I'd have thought 1/40th was possible on a bright day if you keep the ISO at 100 and stop right down?

I had to go up that high (when I didn't have an ND) it didn't look dire but wasn't ideal

Usually use the variable ND and 10 stop plus variable if I need more

Anything above 6 or 7 I'll stick 10 on. Less glass in front of the lens
