Hi guys

I've just been to my first creative writing group last week, and was completely overwhelmed by how quickly everyone else can operate the pen and paper interface, while I trailed behind figuring out which end of the stick squirts ink.

One guy actually had a laptop, which I see as an overkill for me for the sole purpose of doing some quick writing when I'm out and about.

I'm basically looking for something that allows me to touch type reasonably well, and cheap as possible really, allowing me to do some typing up on my stories and scripts whenever I have a few minutes out and about.

I remember seeing someone with a sorta PDA with a detachable compact keyboard at a conference I went to last year, which could be exactly the type of things I could go for. However I'm really open to recommendations.

It's hard to set a budget when there might be wide range of options out there, but judging by the price of laptops out there, I'm guessing something along the lines of £200 or less is what I'm looking for.

Netbooks - Acer Aspire One, Asus eeePC - are available from £200. Have a look in the laptop/pda forum for a couple of threads.

You could have as already sugested, a cheap PDA which would do the job. Most of which are being sold 2nd hand on a popular auction website the reason most people are getting rid of them is that they don't allow internet connectivity, which is almost essential these days.

You could purchase a cheap 'netbook' of the type you described, then twin it with a 'Z Pen' or more specifically 'Dane-Elec Digital zPen', there are 3 types, but this is the present most popular. If you check out the youtube presentations, you will get an idea of how it works. You don't even need to use a netbook, you could use it purely for writing and then just bring it home and connect it to the computer and have your data input done for you.
