THIS:

option 1

Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 NCQ 250GB with 20gb partition for windows/ 217gb storage

Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 NCQ 80GB swapfile/file storage

OR

option 2

Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 NCQ 250GB full partition for storage / swapfile

Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 NCQ 80GB just for windows installation

if mods are feeling generous today, could even make it a poll ;) :p

I don't think you'lll notice any speed difference real world, however I say go for option 1 it seems the best laid out in terms of partitions

I was pondering that, however, as the 217gb partition is always being accessed by 3 other computers on the network, would the drive read head have to physically keep moving between the 2 partitions or does it not work like that ?

In that case!! As it is a very important factor, try and have your 80Gb for most of the stuff you use, e.g OS and pagefile and games, then use the 217 as a storage area, hopefully impact will be minimised should the other PC's access that HDD
