A close call with the delivery man!

The gits i would like to use a stronger word because i hate delievery men. I had my antec 902 being delievered after paying saturday delievery for it. they said they came out and said they put a card through my door when A they didnt come out and B no cards. they think we are stupid and take the mick. City link that is.

I've had 2 attempted deliveries from DHL in the last few days, one of which was today, when I rang up and expressly arranged the redelivery for tomorrow when I'd be in. I've also had £800 paintball guns delivered to my neighbours because I wasn't in, when I didn't even know them. No card, nothing. I checked the tracking number, which said it had been delivered to my house, and thankfully my neighbours eventually came round with it. I mean...wtf.

I've had some irritating ones where they leave the stuff in our porch when we're out (I'd rather they took it away again and I collected it from the office - it's valuable kit) but at the end of the day it's their responsibility. If I don't get the stuff and they can't produce a signature, they're liable.

Fortunately I've never had an issue with lazy couriers. I think they're a bit more chilled out up here in't north, almost all of my deliveries are fairly early and they usually carry the item up with them, proving that they aren't trying to save effort.

The only downside I have now is that I can't get deliveries to my room, they have to deliver to a central porter's lodge who isn't always in. Most will just keep trying (all of the couriers are up here every day anyway, what with 7000 students on campus with debit cards+amazon) - citylink seem to be excellent for retrying on the way back to the depot on the same day, and DPD have given 4/5 attempts before now. UPS, however, will try 3 times at the same time of day, and then take it away never to be seen again.

Not a lot of use if that happens to be the porter's lunch hour - which again, they know from so many visits.

No issues with DPD though, I think it's a case of anyone can get unlucky with the franchisee in their area.

DPD are owned by La Poste though, those Frenchies like to run as soon as possible I suppose. ;)
I've had problems with all courier services pretending theyve knocked when they haven't apart from The Royal Mail. They are the only ones that don't blow big time which is why it's such a shame I hate them for their '70's style bigmouth bullyboy union striking.

Happened to me on Friday, was waiting for my Intel SSD to build my new rig. Paid extra for next day delivery too. Driver never showed up but lied about leaving a card...usual stuff. Complained to Citylink, hopefully he will get his ass kicked.

ive bought a couple of machines from overclockers and the first the delivery guy was so reluctant to carry the machine to the door. i was not in, and its too heavy for my mother to take.

the second he came all the way to the door and got me to walk right down the street for me to carry it in.

Happens to eveyone.
Doesn't really matter what delivery firm.

It's an excepted practise, drivers know there's no comeback from doing it.
Even when you catch them on video nothing is done about it.

One sure way to get your parcel is to get it delivered to work.
24 hour security to take delivery and you dont waste your whole day trying not to be 'carded'.

Reporting carding is a waste of time the firm doesn't care, they encourage it by setting unrealistic delivery targets on the drivers.

Paying for Saturday delivery is the worst it's very expensive and if anything goes wrong you wont see your parcel till Tuesday
You'll have to ring up and try to get the delivery charge back.
Saturday delivery is take the *iss expensive.

Sometimes you get lucky and the driver in your area is a 'good un' always knocks and rings your mobile if he cant find you.
Unfortunately these drivers either get disallusioned and leave or get canned for not meeting targets.

I`m not sure that`s the right attitude to take, if we don`t do anything nothing will change. If more people complained they would take notice at least that`s my hope.

Royal mail/Parcelforce is definitely the best service, though it's just a shame that the union seems totally fixated on destroying the company!

I just resent all the foreign companies cos in my eyes there was no need for " competition" and a Royal service shouldn't have to answer to daft competition laws that serve nobody!

I had a hell of a time with Parcel Force way back in 1992 when my friend tried to send his old Atari Mega ST to me. ( Luckly I wasn't paying for the computer or the delivery). However the computer took 1 and a half weeks to deliver ( lots of phone calls from me and the guy who sent it ) and when it did arrive there was virtually no packaging whatsoever, the front of the case was cracked, the huge hard drive casing was damaged at the front, and about 6 keys on the keyboard failed to work, the monitor was luckly still working though did have a slight crack on it's casing. Other than that the system worked. ( This was my first PC like system I ever got ).

I had 2 guys in suits come from Parcelforce HQ and I showed them the damage they had caused as it sat in my bedroom ( I was like 14 at the time ), and I explained to them the situation, they effectively denied all responsibility for the damage and blamed my friend who sent it (who I know would've ensured that there was suffient packaging).

We didn't get any compensation from Parcel Force.

Only had issues with late delivery of an Athlon 750 system back in 2000 through another company. Other than that, everything I have bought so far has come when expected and not had any of those red letters or van men running away. Anything I get is either left next door or at the local post office if I have been out though I do try and ensure I am available and not having a **** on the bog lol.

Not had any issues with Parcel force since then though, and theyeven delivered my Coolermaster Scout Case a day earlyer than was quoted which was surprising. I got the case through a well known competitor much cheaper than here.

Had the same thing happen to me today.
Just shoved the 'we tried but you weren't in' note through the door.
Desperately need the package for work.

Had nothing but problems with DPD !!

had a box deliverd this morning, and the man at the door got so aggressive to my door, he done a normal knock, then a second later sounded like he was thumping on the glass. ive never had a knock that loud, the neihbours came out

They do that because a lot of them are private drivers who get paid by the drop, if they have to come back again its another few quid in their pockets, annoying to say the least, Iv also had this happen to me a few times and had to chase them down the road.

I made a mistake on order and had delivery address down as my house rather than work. Decided to pop home lunch time to see if it had turned up but no joy. So hung around for an hour just to see if I would be in luck. And for once I was, heard something that sounded like a van pull up so looked out the window and saw it parked outside my house, went downstairs and opened the door and the delivery driver nearly fell in as he was writting the card on the door. Package was still in the bloody van

Some of them (couriers) do delivery onto doorstep when nobody is home, or if they don't have a time (see next). Someone could ask "and what about a signature ?". Huh.. signature, you say... is it that thing you can unreadably put down on their electronic gadget ? :) No problem, they do it "for you" (without your permission, of course) .... and then.. well.... you might find your parcel, or not - depends on the city..

Some of them even don't bother to knock or use doorbell, because they have no time. They must eat, go to some break, do some Very Important Things, or just rest, whatever. So if you are lucky, you receive a note card; if not - they dump a parcel into doorstep and "kindly do paper thing for you", I mean sign themselves as it were your signature.

The worst thing such "types" can do - is take not insured delivery (steal it) and you might do a compensation for upto 39 pounds. I've lost memory (worth >39) sent a month ago in this way.

And once I was waiting for a 14" TV. Not LCD, but old CRT (heavy one). Courier came - I saw her through the window, lugging massive box. When I opened door for her, she just plumped it into floor with noticeable "ohmygoshhh" and gave me papers to sign ?-/ Of course, TV had kinescope ramed inside and was unusable....

Donkeys years ago i had some ram and other stuff left in my garden by a delivery company for another retailer. Was lucky enough to spot it the next morning under a bench in the front garden! the delivery had been marked 'delivered' so i had even been in touch with the retailer to start a complaint, and then had to tell them no i found it in my garden..

I miss citylink to be honest, everyone seemed to slate them but the guy who delivers for them round here is awesome, he waits ages to get a reply and is well friendly. Even helped fit a windscreen wiper one time.. That said the deliveries ive had from dpd have been good too..

edit, I need to post nothing more now, 666 posts :)

Just stumbled on this thread, unfortunately this is the case with a lot of delivery places.

I've recently sat in all day, and had UPS not even attempt delivery, or call my mobile(which they definately had as I was asked to confirm this when I called them up at half 5 to check on delivery).

I've also had Parcel Line just leave a ticket outside on the street, not even in the hallway to our block of flats(where the buzzer was). I only noticed just after lunch time, while I was poping to the italian next door for take-away, and I had to bloody drive and pick up my processor after 7pm because they wouldnt come back.

Needless to say, both times I put in a complaint, but never got nothing back, bar letters saying they rang, and that I never answered.

From other people i've heard from, they do it to reduce their delivery times, but it wouldnt suprise me if they get paid "per attempt".

Don't get me started on deliveries...
The best thing I have in Liverpool is a Parcel Force guy with brain and commitment.
He carded me when I wasn't in but wrote on his mobile number and said 'if you call me before four I'll still be in the area and will call back' I did and he did. Now that's service!!:D

The Royal Mail are the best by far though IMHO, the regular posty guy drops it in my shed or brings it to work for me (my office is only a few hundred yards down the road).
Try getting that from CityLink!
