Looks like the RAM has failed on the card. I had this with a old nv6800 (BFG), I was able to underclock the RAM which solved the problem untill I was able to ship back.

Two more updates:

Problem 1: Tried another monitor no joy, problem still exists.

Problem 2: Total driver reinstall didn't help.

Things left include moving the card this weekend.

Any other machine you can try the card in? If the behaviour replicates on another machine then you can be certain the problem is with the card.

If not, then I guess it's time to RMA the card...

which connection on the back of the card have you got you DVI lead in, top or bottom ? assuming your using a standard case

Tried that it didn't help sadly, got home from work turned on computer and it seemed even worse:

Naturally restart seems to get rid of it.

I also decided to move the card in the afternoon to another PCIE so I could test the idea that there might be an issue with the slot. I turned off my computer to do some RL things and upon turning it on some 20 minutes ago again problem 1 happened so it doesn't appear to be the slot.

Also as stated I've tried both sets of pcie psu connectors but if there was something really wrong that affected both sets I would expect someting to be happening on the +3.3V (3.26), +5V (5.02) and the 12V (11.97) to the board and using a utility they all seem rather stable.

Last thing to wait for is the graphics bug (problem 2) to appear in the different slot.

Well I got some more lines with the card in the different PCIE slot after start up today, originally I didn't think I had nay yesterday but I managed to find some by doing a particular thing:

Basically using the preview function where you hover over the slected IE window to get a preview of the web page, this can be seen in the image above.

have you tried the 2d profile fix posted in here somewhere, it highers your 2d clocks to 400 on the core and 900 on the memory, worth a try as RMA can be expensive if found OK
