Well first of all I was wondering if a 3000+ would bottleneck a x1950pro? (AGP), and also, how easy is it to install a new cooler for a GFX card? as if it isnt worth getting the x1950pro then I'll be looking into getting a new cooler for my 6600GT(AGP), as i'd like to overclock it a bit, and just to provide generally lower temps would be nice anyway, Many Thanks to whoever can help :p

is your 3000+ a s754 or s939? If its 939 i say get a 3800 x2 (£38) and the x1950pro

Honestly i'm not too sure, how do I check exactly? I got this PC back when I didnt bother to research much on computers, long ago now :p

If it's stock speed is 1.8ghz then it's 939. If it's 2ghz then it's 754. Failing that what's your motherboard? Some 754 3000+ and the Venice 939 3000+ will overclock very nicely. I had a 754 one clocked to 2.5ghz no problems and the Venice cores should be even better, depending on your mobo of course. Cpu-Z will tell you what the core is along with the speed.

It's 2.16ghz, and i'll happily overclock it, once I get better cooling that is, it's just i'm gonna eventually hand this PC over to my dad thats all, he just does basic stuff but I dont want it to be dated, and it'l be a lil while yet before I go and get a whole new system so :p

I'll probably need a new case fan aswell or something, just to ensure the system is cooled really well, but yeh it's 2.16ghz if that helps at all :p

Thanks a lot guys :), i'd hapilly buy a x1950pro and overclock my CPU aswell, but i'd want a CPU cooler before I go and do that and I just dont think one will fit into my case, it's an old small case so :( :p, i'm sure it'd be a tight fit just to fit the x1950pro in so :p

X1950pro's are quite big cards. You might need to do a google on your case to see if it would fit. 7600gt's are small cards and are also quite good especially for the price, they are mentioned in that article. From what i remember high end athlon xp chips didnt generally overclock very well. People used to say that they were basically hand picked 2*00 chips off the production line that would run at the higher speeds.

Yeh I can understand that, dont get me wrong, i'll have a whole new system ready for Crysis, but my dads having this PC after and I just want it to be in a really good condition for him thats all, but a 6600gt should be fine, but obviously if I can get the x1950pro and it fits etc then i'll get it, but I really need to clean out the PC and provide it with better cooling, that should prolong it's life for a few more years at the very least, i'll also be looking to get a new PSU more importantly, it's an ATX case so I will probably go for the Corsair VX ATX PSU, as long as it's 100% compatible with my setup that is :p but Many Thanks for the help anyway :) :p
