Hi,

I was wondering if someone would be able to explain a few things to me.

I have the Netgear DG384G wireless modem/firewall/router.

Its all set at default settings apart from SSID broadcast is off, i have MAC filtering setup and the default password has changed.

When i try to use VNC to control my mac mini from the laptop pc, nothing connects and it cannot find any computers on the network.

None of the 4 pc's on the network can see each other (in network places etc).

What do I need to do so that PC's can see each other and so I can use VNC over the network?

Cheers in advance,

Edward

While I am using my Netgear all in one job, do I need to turn on the windows and apple firewalls on the respective machines or will the Netgear be ok on its own?

The answer to your question is yes, all machines have their respective OS firewall turned on. Should I turn it off? and if I do, will it be safe?

Cheers.

For the sake of argument turning off your software firewalls short term to eliminate them as the cause of your problem is unlikley to cause you any issues as you have NAT on the router, if you are paranoid remove the connection from the routers WAN port. Check the workgroup situation while you're at it then try some pings/workgroup browsing/vnc and report back.
