A few questions about my new 2600k build!

Hi there,

I'm just about to buy the parts to build myself a sparkly new pc:

i7 2600K
Asus P8P67 Intel P67
Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9
Palit GeForce GTX 570

I will be using this pc predominantly for gaming and I hope to overclock it to about 4.5Ghz on air. Not interested in SLI.

I have a few questions that I am hoping the kind folks of overclockers can answer!

a.) Is the RAM ok? From my reading of various reviews it looks like it's not worth spending more on higher Mhz as it doesn't translate into real world results. Also I think this RAM runs at 1.65V, I've heard mutterings that this isn't a good thing- would 1.5V RAM be better?

b.) I would like to use my old Corsair VX 550W power supply, will this be sufficient even after overclocking?

c.) Not sure which of these two cases to get:

I prefer the Fractal one but am a little concerned that if I overclock it will get a bit hot (although I know I can add more fans). Also does the Fractal come with dust covers like the Lancool, don't want to end up with a pc full of dust!

d.) What is the best air cooler to get for overclocking? These are the two I've been looking at:

I prefer the Zalman as it is cheaper and comes with a fan.

e.) If I do buy more fans for the Fractal case which are the best type in terms of silence?

C: Personally I would go with the Fractal. But that's because I prefer the understated looks of it. It does run slightly hotter due to the sound deadening and the case being focused on silence, but it won't cause your components to spontaneously combust or have a melt down. If needs be, you can remove sections of the sound deadening that cover air vents to allow more air in, as well as adding more fans.

Unless you're doing Photoshop and stuff you don't really need 8gb of RAM, you would be better off with 4gb in a set like: This or this.

Hmm, I've already decided to go with 8gb of RAM and I just need some advice on the 1.65V question.

Id go with the Geil ram, mines running great at 1.45v

ive also heard 1.5v is best, I think it's what sb is officially designed to use. Someone said it puts less stress on the memory control in the chip.

OCUK use 1.65v XMS3 in their systems/bundles
