Starting to overclock my x2 4400 in a Shuttle SN25P

I have dropped my ram to 166MHz, HT multiplier at x4 and upped my FSB to 205MHz

Looking at CPU-Z the CPU multiplier is jumping from x5 normally to x9,x10 and x11 sometimes, why is this? Is it bad or normal? My first thought that the CPU multiplier was set to Auto but I set it manually to x11 in the BIOS and it had no effect, it's still changing in CPU-Z.

Also I currently have all voltages set on auto, should I instead set them manually and if so where's the best place to find out their defaults?

Thanks,

yg

Central Brain Identifier 7.0.0.0 Beta Build 0420 is available for download! This version has a new feature, which lets you enable and disable the Cool'n'Quiet technology of AMD64 processors

I've linked to version 8. Seems theres no BIOS setting with that shuttle. Try enabling the power scheme in windows to minimal power management before trying cbi.

Same thing is happening to me as well on a C2D, jumps from x6 to x10 whilst of-course altering the core speed, any ideas?

Cheers

You need to ensure speedstep and the C1E settings are diabled in bios.

a slight hijack...sorry but its a newbie question :D

If i reformat my hard drives will that loose my overclock or will the bios stay the same?
Thanks

Speedstep.... I have noticed that whilst im using the cpu, eg. opening an app or something the cpu jumps up to lets say x8 or x10 to my full clock speed, is this what speed step is, if so is it a problem as if im not doing anything intensive i would assume that the cpu stays at a lower clock speed keeping temps down, also i would assume again that this would insure longevity. Please correct me if i have missunderstood speed step

Its more of a power saving thing than a cpu life preserver tbh. By the time you'd see any life extension due to speedstep if any, the cpu would be long obselete.

Cheers justintime, does anyone know if this affects system response time/performance, eg. if i open an app it "to coin a phraze" has to wind itself up to a higher clock speed to deal with opening programs etc whereas if its already at full clock speed i would assume response time would or should be quicker???
