pic 1: And here is me thinking you had a golden woman in your room :o

pic 2: Seems to work, but the HDR is not really doing much for it.

pic 3: Now you've got it. That's a really nice shot!

 I think the border on the 3rd and 2nd don't add to the image. I think the way you have to treat HDR is to ignore that the image is a HDRI. Just treat it as normal and judge the photo that way. In this case I think the processing is a bit OTT and the tree's don't really add to the shot. There's also some odd effects around the trees. I've seen it before with HDR and I haven't seen a way to fix it so I usually dump the shot.

do you mind if i ask what HDR is exactly?

HDR Tutorial

number 1 and 2 don't do much for me, #3 could have been so much better had the focus been on the clouds and sun rays rather than the forground trees which arent interesting enough to warrant the focus on them.

I also think the borders don't help... nothing beats a solid border :)

Think you're right about the borders really, but I just took a liking to it. As for the HDR use, if i'm honest i'm really trying not to see them as normal images, which kinda leads to the last point: The weirdness around the branches. I've spotted this a few times whilst trying to take/make HDR photos of branches/wires and thin things and I really like it, it's got a weird way of screwing with the perspective of the small area within the branches. I can certainly see your point though, and i'm hoping to use HDR in a much more conventional sense, but I'll be taking a few more of these shots too (and of course trying to learn during the process). In reality at this point I haven't got the skill to take conventional photos, and while i'm learning i'm trying to be as creative as possible (and might be a bit guilty of trying to justify crap pics in the meantime).

Fair enough dude and cheers for the criticism. I did actually take one with the clouds being the main feature but it wasnt a great photo (due to poor camera skills), but I kind of liked the way the branches were in the foreground in this photo, as though the sky was some sort of backdrop (in a film/animation sense).

Dan

Thankyou kindly :).

Oh and yes cheers again for writing the HDR guide pete, really opened my eyes to the power of photography (sounds gay but it's true).

Mate, some of those shots are stunning :D The first one does look a little bit meh, nothing that interesting, number 2 would make a good wallpaper and number 3 is the real winner! An amazing use of hdr but maybe next time if you do that type of shot try and fit some more of the sky and sun in. Nice shots ;)
