Hi all
I have a few questions regarding best use practice for 2.5 and 3.5 machanical drives.
I have 4 X 2.5 2TB Seagate drives (only a few months old)
Also have have a 1.5, 2 and 3TB Seagate and 3TB WD 3.5 drives these range in age and have had varied use over the years. The 1.5 and the 3TB Seagate drives have been pulled from usb enclosures and the 2TB and 3TB WD drives have been pulled from NAS drives. They now live in a twin usb3 cloning dock.
The 2.5in drives are in a quad usb3 dock.
I've got about 3TB of Plex media files and about 2TB of data/games. Also general backups which I don't know the size of.
How would you locate your data?
Are there any performance differences?
I know all the smaller drives are 5400 rpm and the larger drives are all 7200 rpm afaik. They all seem to peak at the same max transfer speed but for general use should I consider one type over the other?
I also run VMs.
Not sure if I should use the 3.5s for back ups and the 2.5s for general use as they run quiet in comparison.
Also have a 2tb usb drive which I've left in its original enc as it has a hub built in. This is where I curently keep all my naughty videos lol.
Ethiciency and power savings are my main goal
Hope that all made sense
