... or at least i think it is. I've never seen anyone do this before on ocuk (maybe because they aint as stupid as me...)

any guesses as to the possible uniqueness and stupidity on the following grainy infrared:

Did you try to do IR without a tripod? So you bumped up the ISO to 1600? No scrub that it's on 200.

Maybe it was just wildly underexposed though so you've rescued it from the raw file?

well done flib :D

yeah someone i know shoots IR with a sony P&S thats got a night mode on it. It gives perfect IR's that are possible when handheld.

Next time i look at my phone i realize it has a night mode, as you can see its just grainy and soft but i can do IR with my mobile :p

How do you do that?

On my K800i its a case of hold IR filter over lens, take picture. I was tempted to use it in the phone photo comp but you need to do a bit of channel swapping. My shot wasn't as noisey as that.

Beat ya :p

Is that not the method used to take pictures through thin clothing? I remember something about it on the bbc site and they were going to prevent camera phones doing nightmode during the daytime for this reason...

IR photography can allow you to "see" through thin cotton clothing, yes.

Isn't the night mode on most phones just whacking up the ISO,though - as opposed to removing the hot filter which is what the Sony does.

I think it is yeah. I didn't put mine in night mode which is why the ISO is low.

Pretty much, yeah - although some dSLR's are better than others for it. Generally, the newer // higher end your dSLR is, the worse it is for IR photography.

Is that one of the temples at Rievaulx Terrace?

Matt

yes it is at riveuax terrace.

unfortunately it was a wasted trip, really bad light and the view down to the abbey is hindered too much by trees. Also got feet soaked in the wet grass. and then had to go to a book launch later that dat with wet shoes.

if you havent heard of this guy Mark Denton check out the website as it's really good. The yorkshire book is beautiful, i got mine signed and everything :p

How do you get the night mode on a K800 cyKey? Is it one of the scenes I assume (twilight)?

Dunno as I never used it :) I just held up the filter and it worked.

I find the Terrace rubbsih compared to down by the abbey actually. It's not helped by the National Trust who seem to employ people who really don't like young (ish!) people visiting their properties.

lol!

the guy on the front desk just continued to talk to us as if we were OAP's like the rest of the people there.

"and it's only a short walk at about a mile and it's all flat"

we're 20, walking a mile up hills isnt really gonna be a problem is it :p
