Hi all,

Going to Rome on Thursday, I'd like to take my Roman friend a 'taste of Britain'. He's never been to Britain before and doesn't speak a word of English. He owns a wine bar and is incredibly generous, often giving me tasters of this and that that he's made.

I'd like to return the generousity by taking him something distinctly British, be it food or drink. I'm flying there on EasyJet with hold luggage so need to be a bit careful on what it is (nothing that could freeze or burst and so on).

Any ideas? I'm thinking along the lines of proper pork pies etc. I can safely say he is not a fan of whisky.

You could do a bit of a regional selection:

Haggis / oatcakes / shortbread
Newcastle Brown
Melton Mowbray pork pies
Stilton cheese
Black pudding
Potted shrimp
Pease pudding

Just some ideas from around the country.

Sliced square sausage.
Black pudding
White pudding
Potato Scones (damn...now I want a fry up...)
Shortbread
Pork Pies
Scotch whisky
Wensleydale cheese
Haggis
