A friend brings me a laptop to sort out...

But if you let it sit there it just works. I had issues on it the first few days of trying it when it first got released but sure there was bugs n that. About 6-12 months into using it everything it become much more stable for me. I now use it (and have to use it, forced client devices) because of b2b support.
Ah nasty that sucks for you if you HAVE to use it then :( It does nothing for me that 10 doesn't do, other than doing it worse, with a crappier interface... I tried it for a laugh and the start menu features/interface alone made me want to kill myself. There is zero benefit to having it over 10. 10 Is bad enough lol.
The ONLY time I'll upgrade is when a new DirectX comes out that is required for sexy graphics.

Except won't be long and there won't be any security updates unless you pay for them. :p

Doesn't support every game though that's the only thing. I can't use it simply because one of my remote clients I use for work doesn't work with it so when I connect remotely to machines it has to be from a windows box.
TBF Proton supports most stuff I play. I could just dual boot an Offline Win10 and install with GOG releases for the ones that don't. DL them on mac/linux from GOG then copy across on a stick. Sorted.

I'm not messing with duel boot. Those days are well gone.
It's no work at your end. Grub will do all the work for you automatically setting it up after installing Linux after windows...
You just got to press up or down once to select what you want and then press return or let it select it after a few seconds time out? C'mon my snail familia!

nah when one fails it can be a pain to fix so I would rather not. I just want things to work.

How so? Just reveal an EFI folder and delete or edit the line, can be done with a linux livecd of basically anything that exists, or within cmd prompt on the windows disc etc etc, no big deal. What exactly do you think is going to fail/mess up? Unless you're messing about with alpha/beta kernels you aint gonna damage anything?
IF you want to be super anal you can just install 1 OS per SSD then you're safe if 1 messes up just just unplug it, boot in, plug the other one in externally or hot swapped and edit the line and done.
I've balls'ed up my kernel a few times in the past and it took me longer to look it up the first time then it did to fix it... And we're talking minutes.

Stop hard selling me disgusting windows, leave me and my unix flavours alone you swine!

Batocera Linux is a good one for games, although its aimed at retro gaming. you can play Sega games, PlayStation games, DOS games and all sorts with it.

Been here plenty of times, people bring their old PC's / Laptops to me to fix or upgrade. Old outdated computers are an absolute nightmare to work on. These days I refuse and tell them to buy a new computer.

Perfect solution :p

I've saved a fortune for people in the past and not even a thank you from most. Some appreciated it though.
